Using the equations of scalar diffraction theory we consider the formation of an optical vortex on a diffractive optical element. The algorithms are proposed for simulating the processes of propagation of spiral wavefronts in free space and their reflections from surfaces with different roughness parameters. The given approach is illustrated by the results of numerical simulations. © 2013 Kvantovaya Elektronika and Turpion Ltd.

Results of the extraction separation of binary mixtures of histidine, proline, and methionine using water-soluble homo- and copolymers with different molecular weights are presented. The recoveries and separation factors in the systems methionine–proline and histidine–proline are calculated. Amino acids were quantitatively determined by spectrophotometry using their intrinsic absorption in the UV spectral region. The efficiency of amino acid separation was increased using systems additionally containing chloride ions, which facilitate complex formation. © 2016, Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.

The influence of the photoexcitation intensity on the value of the stationary photocurrent in pure and Li-doped pyrolitic CdS films with a nanostructured surface has been studied. The brightness dependence of the photocurrent of the structures under study is approximated by a power function whose power index is a decay function of the excitation intensity. The unusual peculiarity of the photocurrent dependence on illumination intensity is explained by a modulation of the surface potential barriers for the drift and recombination of nonequilibrium charge carriers. © Pleiades Publishing, Ltd., 2015.

This paper is dedicated to investigation of the elastic inverted pendulum with hysteretic nonlinearity in the suspension point. We consider the problem of stabilization and optimal control of such a system. In the frame of the bionic model we present an algorithm which provides an effective procedure for finding of optimal control parameters together with application of this algorithm to the system under consideration. The results of numerical simulations, namely, the phase portraits and the dynamics of Lyapunov function are presented and discussed.

Isothermal oxidation of nickel alloy containing (wt %) Ni (main), Cr 25.1, Co 26.3, W 10.3, Ti 1.9, and Mo 1.2 has been studied at 1100 and 1200°C in air. It has been found that disperse particles of titanium nitride increase the alloy heat-resistance. Alumosiliconizing of the alloy strengthened by nitride particles to a depth of 45–50 μm decreases by an order of magnitude the oxidation rate of alloy strengthened by disperse particles of titanium nitride at 1100 and 1200°C. © 2014, Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.

The article provides a synchronization model of biological neurons based on the hysteretic properties of metabotropic receptive clusters. We study the properties of the proposed model and various variants of connections between individual neurons. The advantage of the proposed model is its ‘ordered’ response to external environment, which is determined by the hysteretic connection between individual neurons. The described biological neural network model may find application in the segmentation tasks and classification with efficiency exceeding standard numerical algorithms of data handling. © 2005 - 2015 JATIT & LLS. Sensitive coatings for piezoelectric sensors used to assess the presence of anthropogenic volatile organic substances in the equilibrium gas phase over natural water have been selected using an array of measuring elements, and the data have been processed using principal component analysis. Groups of piezoelectric sensors with similar characteristics for substance identification have been determined based on the correlation between piezoelectric sensor responses when vapors of organic substances were detected. The stepby-step optimization of the piezoelectric sensor array has been carried out in order to identify the greatest number of organic compounds (vapors) in the sample. Volatile organic compounds can be identified in their aqueous solutions and natural water using the optimized piezoelectric sensor array. © 2016, Allerton Press, Inc.

The paper presents a comparative analysis of the quality of measuring the phase carrier of signals from GLONASS and GPS navigation satellites and spectrum of small-scale irregularities of electron density in conditions of a nonstationary and inhomogeneous polar ionosphere. It is shown that small-scale irregularities of the electron density in the ionosphere can lead to a substantial nonstationary increase in the acceleration of the phase carrier of both GPS and GLONASS by a factor of 1.3–2.5 from the background level. © 2016, Pleiades Publishing, Inc.
