TAM III multi-channel calorimetry was applied to study the effect of different concentrations petroleum on soil microbial activity. The soils samples from different wells of Dagang Oil field (3683-5-1, West 51-5, West 15-14, 8-13-6H-1) were detected. At the same time, serials of soils with different concentrations of petroleum (control, 0.5%, 1.5%, 2.5%, 4.0%) were prepared to study their short-time effect on microbial community activity. As the oil content increased, the total heat evolution increased, the microbial growth rate constant decreased, the peak-heat output powers increased first and then started to decline when reached a certain concentration, and the times of the peak delayed after crude petroleum added. The results indicate that the soil microbial activity was promoted at the lower concentration but then inhibited accordingly with increasing concentrations of petroleum.

The factors affecting the removal of COD Cr of paper mill effluent treated by the Combined Elextr-floculation Reactor was investigated. The optimal operation condition was obtained. COD Cr removal rate of the effluent was 45.6% when the Combined Elextr-floculation Reactor was used in pretreatment stage. Compared with natural settling and coagulation, the biodegradability of the effluent after treatment with the Combined Elextr-floculation Reactor was up to 84.3%, increasing 10.4% and 7.5% respectively, total operating cost of a ton of water was only 2.79¥, saving 1.85¥ and 1.16¥ respectively.

The optinmal operation condition was obtained. Compared the effects of biochemical treatment and advanced treatment with operating costs after the Combined Elextr-Floculation Reactor Treatment, the results show that removal rate of CODCr up to 45.6%; Compared with natural settling and coagulation, wastewater biodegradability is up to 84.3%, increasing 10.4% and 1.5%, respectively; Total operating costs of a ton of water are only 2.79 ¥, saving 1.85 ¥ and 1.16¥, respectively.
