High-mobility group box 1 (HMGB1), a non-histone nuclear protein, has been implicated in cardiovascular diseases. Dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM), one of the leading causes of heart failure, is often caused by coxsackievirus B3-triggered myocarditis and promoted by the post-infectious autoimmune process. Th17 cells, a novel CD4 + T subset, may be important in the pathogenesis of autoimmune myocarditis. In the present study, we attempted to block HMGB1 function with a monoclonal antibody specific for HMGB1 B box and investigated the effects of the blockade on Th17 cells and experimental autoimmune myocarditis (EAM). After induction of EAM, HMGB1 protein levels were significantly elevated both in the heart and blood. Administration of an anti-HMGB1 B box mAb attenuated cardiac pathological changes and reduced the number of infiltrating inflammatory cells in the heart during EAM. These protective effects of HMGB1 blockade correlated with a reduced number of Th17 cells in local tissues and lower levels of IL-17 in the serum. Furthermore, in vitro, studies demonstrated that HMGB1 promoted Th17-cell expansion. Therefore, we speculate that HMGB1 blockade ameliorates cardiac pathological changes in EAM by suppressing Th17 cells. © 2011 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim.

Luminous efficiency of high power white light LED (light emitting diode) at different temperature and driver current is measured with the photometric, chromatic and electric characteristics analyzer. It is shown that the luminous efficiency decreases as the temperature and (or) the driver current increases. The highter the driver current is, the more strongly temperature worsens the efficiency. However, the changing rate of efficiency with current is similar at different temperature. At last, a luminous efficiency model with temperature and current is constructed. This research is very important for the design of energy-saving LED lamps. © (2012) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

A facile strategy based on self-assembly of Au nanoparticles (AuNPs) (60±10 nm in size) on the surfaces of amino-functionalized porous silica spheres under mild conditions was proposed. The resulting material possessed a core-shell structure in which AuNPs were the shell and silica spheres were the core. Then, thiolated-β-cyclodextrin (SH-β-CD) was covalently attached onto the AuNPs as chiral selector for the enantioseparation. The resultant packing material was evaluated by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The separations of nine pairs of enantiomers were achieved by using the new chiral stationary phase (CSP) in the reversed-phase liquid chromatography (RPLC) mode, respectively. The results showed the new CSP have more sufficient interaction with the analytes due to the existence of AuNPs on silica surfaces, resulting in faster mass transfer rate, compared with β-CD modified silica column. The result shed light on potential usage of chemical modified NPs as chiral selector for enantioseparation based on HPLC. In addition, the new phase was also used in hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography (HILIC) to separate polar compounds and highly hydrophilic compounds. © 2016 Elsevier B.V.

Carbon nanoparticles (C-dots) were prepared by refluxing the combustion soots of candles and corn stalk in nitric acid. The synthesized C-dots were characterized. The results showed a sharp increase in oxygen content and a sharp decrease in carbon content after oxidation. The C-dots had -OH and -CO2H groups introduced which made them hydrophilic. However, their difference was also obvious. The C-dots from candle soot had a 10-45 nm broad particle size distribution, and those from corn stalk soot had a 6-18 nm relatively small and narrow size distribution. The C-dots were mainly of sp2 and sp3 carbon structure different from the C-dots of diamond-like structure from candle soot. Interestingly, two kinds of C-dots all exhibited unique photoluminescent properties. A new stationary phase based on β-cyclodextrin and Poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) was prepared. The mass % of the polymer/100 g stationary phase was 23 %. Through investigating the effects of the acetonitrile (ACN) content of the mobile phase, the pH and the column temperature on the retention factor of polar and hydrophilic compounds in the ACN-rich mobile phase, it was found that the new stationary phase had the typical retention behavior of hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography (HILIC). Moreover, the retention of solutes in the mobile phase exhibited “U-shaped” curves, which was an indication of HILIC/reversed-phase liquid chromatography (RPLC) mixed-mode retention behavior. In addition, the separation of some hydrophilic and different polar compounds was achieved by using the new material in HILIC and RPLC modes, respectively. © 2015, Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

With the rapid development of economy, the demands of oil and gas are further increased. Pipeline system is the main form of transportation for natural gas. The high strength pipeline steel will become the preferred materials for modern natural gas transmission pipeline. It was well known that nickel was an important element in the high strength pipeline steel. In this paper, a novel spectrophotometric method was described for determination of nickel in high strength pipeline steel. The method was based on the color reaction between nickel and dimethylglyoxime, which was favored in an alkaline medium, producing a red compound in the presence of ammonium persulfate as an oxidant. Under the optimum reaction conditions the absorption value was proportional to the concentration of nickel in the range of 0.076∼0.66% (R2 = 0.9999), and the relative standard deviation was less than 3.0% (n=5). The proposed method was applied successfully to determine nickel in X80 grade pipeline steels and X70 grade pipeline steels, respectively. © ASCE 2013.

The large area delaminated (two layers) and non-delaminated samples of 1mm-thick aluminium alloy 2024 were shocked by pulse laser, the restricted layer and the absorbing layer were coated on the surface of the samples, and the PVDF sensors were set on the facing of a quilt of the samples. The signs of laser shock waves were transmitted to the computer by the oscillograph. The results indicated that can be effective detected by laser shock waves, and the math model of hierarchical sheet-metal by laser shock wave was fundamentally developed. A new method to detect the large area delaminated samples was provided, which has the definite engineering importance.

To transfect Hlx into mouse dendritic cell line DC2.4 and observe the effect of hlx on function of dendritic cells. The eukaryotic expression vector PIRES2-EGFP/Hlx was transfected into DC2.4 by liposomes. The transfection efficiency was identified through FACS. RT-PCR and Real-time PCR were used to test the transcription level of Hlx in DC2.4. Forty-eight hours after transfection, DC2.4 cells were studied for cytokine production, cell phenotype, phagocytosis, unilateral mixed lymphocyte reaction. The pIRES2-EGFP/Hlx vector was transfected into DC2.4 with the transfection efficiency of up to 60%. Highly expressed Hlx in DC2.4 increased the expression of maturation makers including CD80 and CD86, and major histocompatibility complex-II. Functional assay showed that over-expression of Hlx in DC2.4 increased the interleukin-12 transcription and decreased DC endocytosis. The Hlx modified DC2.4 highly expressed IL-10 and TGF-β at the same time. Furthermore, it was shown that in a unilateral mixed lymphocyte reaction model, Hlx modified DC2.4 inhibited proliferation of lymphocytes. Transient over-expression of Hlx in DC2.4 promotes DC2.4 maturation and up-regulates IL-12, IL-10 and TGF-β expression. However, the Hlx modified DC2.4 cells functionally appear as regulatory dendritic cells.

Rational utilization of the anti-sulfur tubes is considerable significance to the reliability and service life of oil-gas pipeline system. Unfortunately, there have been no such researches in the field of anti-sulfur bending pipe. In this paper, the mechanical property test, hydrogen induced cracking(HIC) test and sulfide stress-corrosion cracking(SSC) test were conducted to investigate the Φ406.4×10.31mm L245NS anti-sulfur bending pipe with the technique of induction heating bending. And the test result was analyzed combining with microstructure of pipe. The results show that mechanical properties and HIC behavior of L245NS bending pipe reach the standard with the 890-930° induction quenching and 580-630° temper process. The strength and Charpy toughness of inner arc and outer arc are higher than base metal. Most HIC crack initiated at the bainite structure and banded structure. The L245NS anti-sulfur bending pipe exhibits good resistance to SSCC under the NACE TM0177-2005 experiment environment. © (2013) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.
