By different additions of rare earth element in gray cast iron, the effect of mixed rareearth on structure and properties of gray cast iron was studied. The results show that with the mixed rare earth, the microstructure of the gray cast iron is thin and uniform and the flaky graphite was transformed into vermiculate or globular graphite, at the same time the tensile strength, hardness and wear-resistant of the material was improved. When addition of mixed rare earth is 0.1wt% in the gray cast iron, the comprehensive performance is the best. Source

By adding different additions of rare earth Ce to gray cast iron, the relation between Ce additions and graphite structure and matrix of gray cast iron was analyzed, and the cerium's influence on the tensile strength, abrasion resistance and hardness of gray cast iron was also studied. The result shows that the properties of gray cast iron reach the best by adding 0.3wt% rare earth Ce. Source
