Focusing on the issue of automatic control of starting on the steep slope for heavy-duty off-road vehicle with automatic mechanical transmission (AMT), a test vehicle equipped with AMT and hill-start aid (HSA) system was employed. The characteristics of HSA system were researched and the special demands of steep hill-start were analyzed. Coordinate control between AMT and HSA was adjusted. Then, the auto control strategies were put forward and the software was developed. Vehicle tests have proved the feasibility of this work.

In order to enhance the effect of the clutch auto control for vehicles with automatic mechanical transmission (AMT), the traditional clutch control strategies are optimized. After analyzing the force change of the power train and the data of experimentation, the problem that the traditional clutch control strategy can not start vehicles smoothly and swiftly at the same time is pointed out. To solve the problem, the phases of start process are increased. The clutch sliding stage is divided into the front stage and the back stage. The control strategy of the back stage is optimized. The clutch is disengaged in the second clutch sliding stage to reduce the impact of the synchronization and make the vehicle start smoothly and swiftly. The method is validated through the vehicle test.

The hill-start auto control technology based on the EPB was researched in order to reduce the control difficulty and improve the effect. The requirements of hill-start were analyzed for the force change when vehicles start on the ramp. The possibility of hill-start auto control based on the EPB system was discussed. A method of calculating the ramp resistance based on the sensor was proposed. The control strategies for EPB coordinated with the driving force was designed. A hill-start software for EPB was developed, and the control strategies were validated through vehicle test showing their feasible.
