In order to establish automatic monitoring stations for monitoring the level of environmental radiofrequency electromagnetic radiation (RF-EMR) in real time, a remote monitoring system for RF-EMR was constructed using the available device. The monitoring data were recorded and transmitted via GSM networks. Data analysis software was developed adopting Matlab7.X, which can automatically generate the daily, monthly and yearly analysis results displayed on a chart. Many previous works have demonstrated that acetylcholinesterase (AChE) was enantioselectively inhibited by chiral organophosphorus insecticides (OPs) and that a significant difference in reactivation existed for AChE inactivated by (1R)- versus (1S,3S)-stereoisomers of isomalathion. It had been known that α-naphthyl acetate esterase (ANAE), an enzyme which might play an essential role in the growth of plants and the defense of plants against environmental stress by regulating the concentration of hormones in plants, can be inhibited by OPs. However, it was unknown whether interaction of ANAE with chiral OPs was enantioselective. The present work investigated the inhibition kinetics and spontaneous reactivation of ANAE inactivated by enantiomers of malaoxon, isomalathion, and methamidophos. The order of inhibition potency is (R) > (S) for malaoxon, (1R,3R) > (1R,3S) > (1S,3R) > (1S,3S) for isomalathion, and (S) > (R) for methamidophos according to bimolecular rate constants of inhibition (ki), which is consistent with the order observed in the enantioselective inhibition of AChE by malaoxon, isomalathion, and methamidophos. The difference in spontaneous reactivation of AChE inactivated between (1R)- and (1S,3S)-isomers of isomalathion is conserved for ANAE. The observations indicated ANAE and AChE have similar selective inhibition kinetics and postinhibitory reactions in reaction with chiral OPs. © 2014 American Chemical Society. Source

The novel synthesis of task-specific ionic liquids (TSILs) introducing piperazine substructures was described. Piperazine functional groups were easily grafted onto an imidazolium cationic derivative via a simple four-step process starting from available materials such as imidazole, ethylene glycol, and 1-butylamine or 3-dimethylaminopropylamine. Effects of pH, temperature, and structure of functional groups on the performance of liquid-liquid extraction of Cu2+, Ni2+, and Co2+ from water were investigated. It was found that TSILs were efficient for removal of these metal ions in mild acid solutions. The TSIL with an extra nitrogen atom showed a higher capability to separate metal ions, especially for Cu2+. This may be ascribed to the intrinsic structure of the functional groups - the more coordination sites, the higher the affinity for the metal ions. Furthermore, the thermodynamics indicated that the extraction process was exothermic and spontaneous in nature. © CSIRO 2015. Source

In the past twenty years, a continuous supervision monitoring of environmental radioactivity level around Qinshan NPP (QNPP) Base was carried out by Zhejiang Province Radiation Environmental Monitoring Center. The monitoring results show that the γ radiation dose rate around QNPP Base, the activity concentration of gross α, gross β, 40K, and 137Cs in aerosol samples, the gross β daily settlement in fallout, the activity concentration of 14CO2 in air, the activity concentration of gross α, gross β, 90Sr, and 137Cs in environmental freshwater (drinking water, lake water and well water), the average specific activity of 238U, 232Th, 226Ra, and 137Cs in soils, and the average specific activity of 40K, 137Cs, 90Sr, and 14C in edible plants, are not abnormal. The radionuclide contents in those samples are of the same levels compared with the background values before the operation of QNPP Base and the monitored values of Hangzhou reference site. However, the activity concentrations of 3H in air, rain water, drinking water, pond water, sea water of discharge site, and terrestrial plants are higher than the monitored values of Hangzhou reference site, and in some medium the activity concentrations of 3H outclass that of background around QNPP Base. The results indicate that after 20 years operation of QNPP Base, especially after the third phase heavy water reactors operation commercially, the external environment around QNPP Base has been affected by 3H in radioactive effluent.
