Dyeing wastewater contains large amounts of residual dyes, and leads to a threat to the ecological environment. The laccase is able to oxidize a wide range of textile dyes, it has been recognized as an ideal candidate for dyeing wastewater treatment. To exploit the effective treatment process of dyeing wastewater based on enzyme technology, we tested the decolorization ability of the commercial laccase SUKALaccTM toward five common textile dyes, this enzyme exhibited decolorization efficiency over 14.85% to 85.97% for these test dyes. Some factors such as enzyme concentration, dye concentration, temperature and pH were evaluated in order to determine the optimum conditions for the enzyme performance. Finally, the dye toxicity test with Scenedesmus obliquus and Daphnia magna showed that there was a reduction in toxicity after the enzymatic treatment. These experimental results pave the substantial way for the practical application of laccase for dyeing wastewater treatment in the future. ©, 2015, Science Press. All right reserved. Source
