We propose a simple amplitude-phase retrieval attack free cryptosystem based on direct attack to phase-truncated Fourier-transform-based encryption using a random amplitude mask (RAM). The RAM that is not saved during the encryption provides extremely high security for the two private keys, and no iterative calculations are involved in the nonlinear encryption process. Lack of enough constraints makes the specific attack based on iterative amplitudephase retrieval algorithms unusable. Numerical simulation results are given for testing the validity and security of the proposed approach. © 2013 Optical Society of America. Source

The propagation of an Airy beam with a spiral phase is studied. The centroid position and spread of the beam are investigated analytically for different topological charges. Study shows that the centroid position of the Airy beam with a spiral phase keeps moving during propagation. The motion with positive topological charge is in the direction opposite to that with negative topological charge. The speed of the motion of the centroid position is proportional to the topological charge and the normalized distance. From the variation of the second moment of the beam, we can also see that the beam spread is speeded up by the spiral phase during propagation. The speed of the beam spread is proportional to the square of the topological charge. © 2012 Optical Society of America. Source

A radial phased-locked (PL) Lorentz beam array provides an appropriate theoretical model to describe a coherent diode laser array, which is an efficient radiation source for high-power beaming use. The propagation of a radial PL Lorentz beam array in turbulent atmosphere is investigated. Based on the extended Huygens-Fresnel integral and some mathematical techniques, analytical formulae for the average intensity and the effective beam size of a radial PL Lorentz beam array are derived in turbulent atmosphere. The average intensity distribution and the spreading properties of a radial PL Lorentz beam array in turbulent atmosphere are numerically calculated. The influences of the beam parameters and the structure constant of the atmospheric turbulence on the propagation of a radial PL Lorentz beam array in turbulent atmosphere are discussed in detail. © 2011 Optical Society of America. The one-to-one correspondence between a (3 + 1) -dimensional variable-coefficient nonlinear Schrödinger equation with linear and parabolic potentials and a standard nonlinear Schrödinger equation is given, and an exact superposed Akhmediev breather solution in certain parameter conditions is obtained. These precise expressions for the peak, width, center and phase indicate that diffraction and chirp factors influence the evolutional characteristics such as phase, center and width, while the gain/loss parameter only affects the evolution of the peak. Moreover, by modulating the relation between the terminal accumulated time T e or the maximum accumulated time T m and the accumulated time T0 based on the maximum amplitude of Akhmediev breather, the controllability for the type of excitation such as postpone, maintenance and restraint of the superposed Akhmediev breather is discussed. © 2013 Elsevier Inc. The regulatory mechanisms of determining which genes specifically expressed in which tissues are still not fully elucidated, especially in plants. Using internal correspondence analysis, I first establish that tissue-specific genes exhibit significantly different synonymous codon usage in rice, although this effect is weak. The variability of synonymous codon usage between tissues accounts for 5.62% of the total codon usage variability, which has mainly arisen from the neutral evolutionary forces, such as GC content variation among tissues. Moreover, tissue-specific genes are under differential selective constraints, inferring that natural selection also contributes to the codon usage divergence between tissues. These findings may add further evidence in understanding the differentiation and regulation of tissue-specific gene products in plants. © 2012 Liu Qingpo. Source
