Current breaking experiments on a certain type of medium high voltage ring main unit's SF 6 load switch were conducted. The arc movement characteristics during breaking process were observed, and the movement law was revealed by the images recorded by a high-speed digital camera. According to the analysis of the experimental results, the load switch was improved correspondingly and validated by test. This study may provide a reference for design and optimization of load switches.

The trip coil current contains lots of information, which includes the trip and operation process of circuit breaker. Through analysis of trip coil current, the fault diagnosis of trip coil, core, return spring, trip pole, and operation process of circuit breaker can be realized. In this paper, the pick-up and analysis methods, fault prediction algorithm of trip coil current signal were introduced. A new prediction algorithm based on sliding time window and ANN was introduced, which is applied to mechanical fault prediction of circuit breaker. The research results introduced in this paper provide the basis for on-line monitoring and fault diagnosis of circuit breaker's mechanical condition.
