Principles used in the development of modern computation codes for calculating erosion-corrosion of power equipment are considered. Specific features of their practical applications aimed at preventing, revealing, and eliminating erosion-corrosion thinning of the metal of elements used in the units of power stations are analyzed. Results obtained from using the domestically developed computation code RAMEK for operating power units are presented and prospects for implementing it in designing new power units of nuclear power stations are determined. © 2011 Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.

The main stages and processes through which deposits are generated, migrate, and precipitate in the metal-secondary coolant system of power units at nuclear power plants are analyzed and determined. It is shown that substances produced by the mechanism of general erosion-corrosion are the main source of the ionic-colloid form of iron, which is the main component of deposits in a steam generator. Ways for controlling the formation of deposits in a nuclear power plant's steam generator are proposed together with methods for estimating their efficiency. © Pleiades Publishing Inc. 2011.

The recent development of binary geothermal technology is analyzed. General trends in the introduction of low-temperature geothermal sources are summarized. The use of single-phase low-temperature geothermal fluids in binary power plants proves possible and expedient. The benefits of power plants with a binary cycle in comparison with traditional systems are shown. The selection of the working fluid is considered, and the influence of the fluid’s physicochemical properties on the design of the binary power plant is discussed. The design of binary power plants is based on the chemical composition and energy potential of the geothermal fluids and on the landscape and climatic conditions at the intended location. Experience in developing a prototype 2.5 MW Russian binary power unit at Pauzhetka geothermal power plant (Kamchatka) is outlined. Most binary systems are designed individually for a specific location. Means of improving the technology and equipment at binary geothermal power plants are identified. One option is the development of modular systems based on several binary systems that employ the heat from the working fluid at different temperatures. © 2015, Pleiades Publishing, Inc.

We present data on the effect the pH value of liquid film has on the rate of erosion-corrosion processes in the metal of thermal and nuclear power station elements operating with two-phase flows. We also suggest a calculation diagram and an engineering procedure for determining the pH value of liquid phase in the wet-steam paths of power units depending on the concentration of corrective additions, steam wetness ratio, and temperature. © 2010 Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.

A procedure for revealing factors causing damage to metal and the dominating mechanism through which this damage occurs that was developed earlier is applied for substantiating the operating con-ditions of valves with Dnom = 800 mm installed in the multiple forced circulation loop of power units at nuclear power stations equipped with RBMK-1000 reactors under which their resistance to erosion is ensured. The peculiarities of the cavitation effect are considered and some engineering criterion-parametric methods are proposed for estimating the possibility of manifestation and the level of intensity of the cavitation action on components of narrowing devices of circuit II of nuclear power plant (NPP) power units. Results of computational and experimental studies are presented which have shown that up to 30% of throttling devices of the condensate-feed channel of NPP power units are subject to the cavitation erosion. The possibilities of practical application of the developed methods were established for revealing the causes of wall thinning of narrowing devices in the NPP working channel and for preventing it. © Pleiades Publishing, Inc., 2012.

Results from a study aimed at analyzing the damageability and determining the mechanism due to which thinning occurs in the metal of welded connections in the feed water supply control assemblies used in power units of nuclear power stations equipped with RBMK-1000 reactors are presented together with the outcomes from calculation studies aimed at analyzing the effect of hydrodynamic characteristics on the kinetics characterizing the thinning of a welded joint and adjacent elements of a pipeline.
