BL Lacertae is one of the famous AGN that shows convincing evidence to support periodic variability. We compile R-band data and radio 22 GHz database from the available literature to build the light curves and to calculate broad-band spectral indices. This paper employs the wavelet periodic estimation method. The analysis results indicate that the most possible period is 7.02–7.36 yr in the selected wave-bands. The broad-band spectral indices have a possible period of 4.11 yr as a half value in selected wave-bands. The results confirm that the variability period in the radio 22 GHz is in agreement with the optical R band of about 7.01 yr, as also mentioned in other literatures. © 2014, Indian Academy of Sciences.

A study of Doppler-boosting effect on the fluxes of active galactic nuclei (AGNs) with relativistic bulk motion is presented. Four AGNs samples (the BL Lacertae object sample, the core-dominated high-polarization quasar sample, the core-dominated low-polarization quasar sample, and the lobe-dominated quasar sample) presented by Ghisellini et al. (1993, AAA 57. 158. 207), are employed. All plots of radio flux versus optical flux, corrected by Doppler factors, for the four samples exhibit an obvious correlation between the two quantities, in agreement with what would be predicted by the synchrotron-emission mechanism. The results show that Doppler-boosting effect is indeed obvious for the AGNs with relativistic bulk motion. © 1999 Astronomical Society of Japan.

In this paper, a new method for the determination of gold based on the rapid reaction of gold with 5-(2-hydroxy-4-sulfo-5-chlorophenolazo)-thiorhodmine (HSCT) and the solid phase extraction of the coloured chelate with a reversed phase polymer-based C18 cartridge has been developed. In the presence of 0.05-0.5 mol L-1 of hydrochloric acid solution and emulsifier-OP medium, HSCT reacts with gold to form a red chelate of a molar ratio 1:3 (gold to HSCT). This chelate was enriched by the solid phase extraction with a polymer-based C18 cartridge and eluted the retained chelate from the cartridge with dimethyl formamide. The enrichment factor of 100 was achieved. In the DMF medium, the molar absorptivity of the chelate is 1.32 × 10 5 L mol-1 cm-1 at 510 nm. Beer's law is obeyed in the range of 0.01-2.0 μg mL-1 in the measured solution. The relative standard deviation for eleven replicates sample of 0.5 μg L -1 level is 2.22%. The detection limit, based on the three times of standard deviation is 0.03 μg L-1 in the original sample.

Phytochemical investigation of the fruit of Schisandra propinqua var. propinqua led to the isolation and identification of a new lignan named Schproplignan C. It structure was elucidated by spectroscopic methods including extensive 1 D-and 2 D-NMR techniques and its HIV-1 activity was evaluated. It shows an anti-HIV activity with EC50 (median effect concentration) value of 8.26 mg/mL and a therapeutic index (TI) above 22.8.

A new daphne diterpenoid (daphnediterp A) was isolated from the leaf and steam of Daphne acutiloba Rehd. Its structure was determined by means of HRESIMS, extensive 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopic studies and chemical evidence. The anti HIV-1 activity was also evaluated and it shows an anti HIV-1 activity with a therapeutic index above 31.4.

A new arylnaphthalene lignan (daphnelignan B), together with three known one, were isolated from the leaf and steam of Daphne acutiloba Rehd. Their structures were determined by means of HRESIMS, extensive 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopic studies and chemical evidence. The anti-HIV-1 activity of daphnelignan B was also evaluated and it shows an anti-HIV-1 activity with a TI (Therapeutic Index) above 35.62.

In this work, a new method for the recovery of gold from the cyanide solution with graphitized carbon black as sorbent was studied. The recovery of gold was preformed by passing the cyanide solution through the graphitized carbon black cartridge and eluted the absorbed gold from the cartridge with 2.0 mol L-1 thiourea solution as eluant. An enrichment factor of 320 was achieved and the routine ion (Ag, Ni, Cu, Zn, Fe, Co) do not interfered with the gold recovery. The absorption capacity was calculated to be 32 mg g-1 for the gold standard solution and 24 mg g-1 for the industrial gold cyanide leaching solution. This method can be applied to the recovery of gold from real industrial gold cyanide solution with good results.

The recovery of gold from the cyanide solution with weakly basic anion exchange fiber as sorbent was studied. The effects of different recovery parameters on gold recovery efficiency were studied in detail. The anion exchange fiber was packed into a PTFE cartridge and the gold can be absorbed on this cartridge when the cyanide solution passed through the cartridge. The absorbed gold was eluted from the cartridge with 2.0 mol L-1 nitric acid solution as eluant. By this procedure, an enrichment factor above 500 was achieved and the routine ion do not interfered with the gold recovery. The absorption capacity was calculated to be 52 mg g-1 for the gold standard solution and 46 mg g-1 for the industrial gold cyanide leaching solution. This method can be applied to the recovery of gold from cyanide solution with good results.
