In order to understand the law of vibration propagation and the damage degree of the bedding rock slope during blasting excavation, we studied the bedding slope in Puli-Xuanwei Expressway in Yunnan Province as an example. By applying acoustic tests in combination with the monitoring vibration and sound velocities under different depths of the rock mass, we obtained the vibration velocities at different locations after blasting, and analyzed the damage range as well as the propagation and attenuation law of the vibration wave measured of different explosive doses. The results show that the vibration velocity at any point of the blasting area exhibits a corresponding relationship with the damage depth of the slope. It exhibits a linear relation for single explosion and a presents non-linear relation for repeated explosion. Assuming a decrease of 10% in the sound velocity as the damage limit and the control value of blasting, the critical velocity corresponding to single explosion is 11.54 cm/s, the damage radius is 5.57 m, and the critical velocity corresponding to repeated explosion is 24.20 cm/s, the damage radius is 7.56 m. According to the engineering geological characteristics of bedding rock slope in Puli-Xuanwei Expressway in Yunnan province, the structural planes are divided into four types based on their formation mode. A home-made loading device is used to test the compression strength and shear strength of structural planes under natural conditions; and strength parameter values are obtained by least square linear fitting method, structural surface shear strength parameter values are obtained. By contrasting the equivalent shear strength of Mohr-Coulomb method based on JRC-JCS, the results basically agree with each other; and the feasibility of the device is verified. Considering filling thickness, moisture content of filler and other factors based on different types of slope structural planes, the shear strength parameters is obtained through several shear tests. The results show that the values of shear strength parameters in saturated state are smaller than that in the state of nature, meanwhile c increases and ψ decreases gradually with the increase of filling thickness. The test results provide reference data for correct evaluation of the characteristics of structure planes and stability calculation of the rock bedding slope in the next stage. This research results provide a simple test method for the choice of strength parameters relative to structural planes in the test field. ©, 2015, Academia Sinica. All right reserved.

Using the theory of upper bound limit analysis method and the volume force increment method, considering the defects of limit analysis model of a single sliding surface, an arbitrary block model considering the dislocation effects of multiple rock layers with structural joints is established. When the rock mass reaches the limit state (destruction) under external load, the work that is done by external loads is equal to the work that rock mass absorbs. Based on this premise, relevant equation can be established; thereby the calculation formula of slope stability coefficient can be derived. After analyzing typical numerical examples of slope and comparing to results of discrete element numerical simulation, the feasibility and applicability of this method are verified. A calculation of bedding rock slope located in Puli-Xuanwei highway in Yunnan province is achieved, the result shows that the stability coefficient is close to the result obtained from discrete element numerical simulation. The coefficient is slightly larger, but the slope is stable. It provides a new calculation method for evaluating the stability of this kind of slope. ©, 2015, Yantu Lixue/Rock and Soil Mechanics. A larger number of SEM images were obtained after scanning the soft soil from Zijingang in Hangzhou in order to investigate the microstructure of the soil. A three-dimensional model was established based on the characteristics of the SEM images of soft soil. Image-Pro Plus(IPP) was used to calculate the three-dimensional porosity of the soft soil. The influences of the step size, the magnification, the threshold size and the size of analyzed area on the calculated results were studied. The smaller step size was found to corresponding to a higher accuracy, and the step size 2satisfied both the computing capacity and accuracy requirements. It was suitable to choose a magnification of 1200±300 times to calculate the three-dimensional porosity. The threshold value was related to the magnification. The greater magnification should be matched with larger threshold value accordingly. Area of analysis over 70% of the total area of the image reflected effectively the entire information of the image. ©, 2015, Academia Sinica. All right reserved.

Based on a concise mechanical model of two-phase discontinuous media such as saturated soil, a new expression of effective stress was derived. In the expression, the distribution of total stress depends on the porosity n and the coefficient of pore pressure's transfer α(α∈[0, 1]). The new expression was then applied to Biot theory. Consolidation of a columnar sample was analyzed with FEM software Abaqus and solutions of pore pressure and displacement were obtained. The results from the new equations were compared with those from original Biot theory. From the permeability data in relevant literatures, values of α of clays in a reasonable range of 0.32-0.54 were obtained. With the same modulus and coefficient of permeability, the consolidation process speeds up as n and α decrease and Mandel-Cryer effect becomes more significant. When n = α = 0, the consolidation process becomes instantaneous. A transition is presented from the consolidation behavior of porous media to that of continuum mechanics. The consolidation theory of the two-phase discontinuous medium bridges the traditional consolidation theory and the elastic theory; the confirming the rationality of the mechanical model of two-phase discontinuous medium indirectly.

In order to get the size of soft clay contact area, a larger number of SEM images for soft clay in Zijingang Hangzhou had been scanned. Three-dimensional calculation model was built by analyzing the characteristics of these SEM images. Soft clay micro porosity was counted with the use of Image-Pro Plus(IPP)software. By comparing the relationship between macro-porosity and micro-porosity, the percentage of soft clay contact area had been obtained. The concept of soft clay average contact area rate was first proposed, and the deviation that may be present had been also studied. The results show, the soft clay contact area is not very small and its value is related with the porosity. The smaller the porosity is, the greater the contact area rate is. The sample shows that when the porosity value is 0.371, the contact area value is about 10%. Comparing to the contact area rate obtained from average threshold value, the results obtained form the same porosity is more stable. Image registration is to find a suitable space transformation that aligns two or more images of the same scene taken at different times. As the image size is increasing, the numerical approaches based on the pixel matrix may stepup the computation complexity, and it is difficult to perform the large size registration on a single computer in the limited time. PDE-based registration is employing the partial differential equation driven by a similarity measure to minimize the distance between the corresponding pixel points. During the minimization process, Additive operator splitting (AOS) scheme is usually be used. In this paper, we discuss a multithreading method to perform AOS scheme and apply it to the parallel image registration computing with OpenMP and MPI on a dual core cluster. Some experimental results show that this method can produce the large size parallel image registration and save the time consume efficiently. © 2011 Springer-Verlag.
