The minimum maintenance model for relay is developed from the viewpoint of relay reliability and maintenance economy. Based on the proposed model, the optimal replacement strategy is proposed. Specifically, the Poisson distribution fitting and Cramer-von Mises goodness of fit test are used to determine the failure characteristics of protection devices; and the log-normal distribution is used to fit repair features of protection device. With the above failure and repair property, the minimum maintenance model is constructed. Furthermore, the unit life-cycle cost is applied in protection device reliability assessment to formulate the replacement strategy with the lowest unit life-cycle cost as the objective. Finally, the optimal replacement cycle for a field operating relay is obtained with the proposed strategy, with the double protection considered. Lots of small hydropower stations gather in the west of Yunnan province, where are far from Yunnan main power grid in electric distance, and therefore dynamic stability in this area is serious. Based on the disturbed temporal trajectory dynamic performance index and cost of investment, SVC, STATCOM and TCSC single FACTS element integrated optimization model is established respectively in order to improve the dynamic stability and transmission ability. And an improved difference evolution algorithm is applied for the different types of single FACTS element configuration parameter and capacity. Contra posing to the insufficiency and problems existing in the traditional relay protection setting and coordination calculation management model, this paper develops a set of relay protection setting and coordination calculation process management system applicable to provincial, prefecture and county levels dispatching system. The system is based on the SOA and seamlessly integrates all the functions of the relay protection setting calculation related modules on the unified data platform, realizing the examination, approval and implement of the closed loop management of drawing of protection, and the basic data of protection setting calculation such as equipment parameters' remote filling, parameter calculation modeling, protection setting calculating and auto-generating relay protection setting value notification model. This system has been successfully used in the relay protection setting calculation for the Yunnan Electric Power Grid's provincial, prefecture and county levels dispatching system. ©, 2014, Power System Protection and Control Press.
