A new technology has been studied to synthesize 2,2, 4-trimethyl-1, 3-pentanediol monoisobutyrate. Isobutyraldehyde is used as raw material and MeONa as catalyst by one step process, including aldol condensation reaction and Cannizzaro reaction. Under the following optimal conditions: 4 g MeONa as catalyst/(200 g isobutyraldehyde), 60°C reaction temperature and 4 h reaction time, the isobutyraldehyde conversion is above 80% and the target product selectivity is above 97%.
