DJIPLOHO conducts the first drainage vent test of diversion tunnel after completing in the construction of hydropower station with a water commissioning. Through the data analysis and research for the testing process, it is necessary and has flexibility to adjust accurately the drainage. Test results verify the rational design and safety of the tunnel and prove the correctness of first drainage tests procedures. The earth-rock dam on left bank of the head of DJIPLOHO Hydroelectric Power Station adopts the clay core dam. Due to the tropical oceanic climate which is hot and rainy, the soil of clay core wall has high water content. Through the compaction experiment on site, it chooses suitable dry density, formulates reasonable rolling parameters and finally achieves good construction quality, which ensures the construction progress and meets the requirement of engineering. As a special soft structural plane, interlayer shear zones are controlling factors threatening the stability of dam foundation, slope and surrounding rock frequently. The swallowtail catastrophe model of composite rock mass with interlayer shear zones was established by the catastrophe theory with the composite rock mass system with interlayer shear zones being the integral study object, considering the instability failure characteristics of the composite rock mass with interlayer shear zones and the heterogeneity of interlayer shear zone. The jump properties and developing process of the instability of the composite rock mass system with interlayer shear zones were presented based on the catastrophe model and the analysis of the number and its behaviour styles of the potential function of equilibrium surface equations. The evolution procedure of the surrounding rock system instability resulted from the failure of interlayer shear zones was analyzed. The results show that the failure form and its evolution procedure of the composite rock mass with interlayer shear zones are dependent on the stability of the system made up of interlayer shear zone and surrounding rock. While the system stability is closely interrelated with the interaction between the interlayer shear zones and the adjacent strata. Source

The coefficient of permeability of unsaturated soil is a key parameter in performing seepage analysis in saturated/unsaturated soils. However, both the degree of saturation and the dry density influence the coefficient of permeability of unsaturated soil. A series of experiments are performed by using the improved measurement apparatus under different infiltration steps and various initial dry densities of unsaturated remolded loess specimens. According to the results, the relationships among degree of saturation, dry density, coefficients of air and water permeability are analyzed. A new density-saturation-dependent air-water permeability function is put forward based on the above relationships; and it can not only determine the coefficient of water permeability but also quantitatively describe the mutual influence of movement of both air and water in the void of unsaturated soil. Finally, the new experiment is provided to verify the proposed permeability function. It is shown that the predicted curves are in good accordance with the experimental data. Source
