A new intercalation of Indium and zinc phthalocyanine(ZnPc) thin film is developed by using thermal co-evaporation technique. The exciton dissociation at the interface of Indium Tin Oxide(ITO) electrode and Indium doped ZnPc upon laser irradiation is observed through the transient photovoltage measurement technique in comparison with the interfacial exciton dissociation occurred at ITO/pristine ZnPc interface. The occurring transient photovoltage spike is regarded as the effect of exciton dissociation at ITO/In-doped ZnPc interface and depends on the amount of free carrier separation by built-in field or charge carrier concentration according to doping ratio. The experiments demonstrate the existence of exciton dissociation at ITO/In-doped ZnPc interface, the direction of charges transfer is that holes are injected to ITO, whereas electrons are left in bulk film. A thin insulating layer of 6 nm thick lithium fluoride(LiF) is inserted between ITO and In-doped ZnPc to prevent the exciton dissociation at ITO/In-doped ZnPc interface and insist on the phenomenon of interfacial exciton dissociation. An electrostrictive polyurethane (PU) modified with three different polyaniline (PANI) loadings was demonstrated to overcome the limited actuated strains at low electric fields. The neat PU and all the composites were simply fabricated by solution casting. The experimental results show that high actuated strains (10.8%) at low electric fields (4.5 kV/mm) were observed for the modified PU/PANI-ES-HCl composite. In addition, the electrostrictive coefficient of the modified polymer increased by 20-fold compared to the neat PU. The modified PU/PANI-ES-HCl composites presented clearly a homogenous dispersion of filler in the polymeric matrix, and provided increased dielectric constant, high electromechanical response and low Young's modulus. Consequently, this PU/PANI-ES-HCl composite is potentially a useful flexible material for actuators in low electric fields. © 2016 Elsevier B.V.

Longkong fruit abscission was found to be sensitive to external ethylene at concentrations as low as 0.05μLL-1. Ethylene induced fruit drop at the junction between the main peduncle and the calyx, at a clear abscission zone. Fruit drop at the junction between calyx and the fruit, however depended on an external force. There may or may not be an abscission zone at this site. Dipping longkong fruit in 200μLL-1 NAA solution delayed fruit abscission and slightly reduced ethylene production. NAA application was also found to reduce the effect of external ethylene treatment. Applications of 1μLL-1 1-MCP for 6h minimized the effect of external ethylene and almost doubled storage life of longkong. The combination of NAA and 1-MCP treatment did not give a synergistic effect. © 2011 Elsevier B.V.

The three identical lab-scale upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactors were operated continuously for treating cannery seafood wastewater at seven hydraulic retention times (HRTs) of 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 0.5 and 0.25 days. The different of granule sizes from three sources: a cassava factory (CS), a seafood factory (SS), and a palm oil mill (PS), average sizes in the range 1.5-1.7, 0.7-1.0 and 0.1-0.2 mm respectively were used as inocula for anaerobic digestion. The UASB-R1 used only granules from seafood factory (R1-SS), the UASB-R2 used mixed granules from seafood with cassava factory (R2-SS+CS) and the UASB-R3 used mixed granules from seafood factory with palm oil mill (R3-SS+PS). In this study selected mathematical models including Monod, Contois, Grau second-order and modified Stover-Kicannon kinetic models were applied to determine the substrate removal kinetics of UASB reactor. Kinetic parameters were determined through linear regression using experimental data obtained from the steady-state experiment and subsequently used to predict effluent COD. The results showed that Grau second-order and modified Stover-Kicannon kinetic models were more suitable than that of others for predicting the effluent COD, with high the correlation coefficient (R2). In addition, the UASB-R2 from mixed granules with cassava factory (SS+CS) gave the best performance and highest coefficient value. © 2016 Penerbit UTM Press. All rights reserved.

Interactive multimedia application as e-books has benefits and capabilities for enhancing learning rate and increasing students' concentration and involvement in the learning activities. This study presents interactive e-book design areas to support literacy learning for language minority students within the primary school level. There are three main components of design framework including multimedia design, interactive design, and learning design. Moreover, the researcher attempts to design all three components based on the cultural theme to help language minority students reflect their own cultures and begin to understand the cultures of the language that they are learning. The prototype consists of two main modules including manual module and automatic module. Furthermore, the researcher would like students to interact with the program through interactive whiteboard as a cooperative tool in the classroom. The interactive e-book is expected to be an alternative educational tool to solve the learning problems of language minority students. © 2015 Infonomics Society.
