An electrostrictive polyurethane (PU) modified with three different polyaniline (PANI) loadings was demonstrated to overcome the limited actuated strains at low electric fields. The neat PU and all the composites were simply fabricated by solution casting. The experimental results show that high actuated strains (10.8%) at low electric fields (4.5 kV/mm) were observed for the modified PU/PANI-ES-HCl composite. In addition, the electrostrictive coefficient of the modified polymer increased by 20-fold compared to the neat PU. The modified PU/PANI-ES-HCl composites presented clearly a homogenous dispersion of filler in the polymeric matrix, and provided increased dielectric constant, high electromechanical response and low Young's modulus. Consequently, this PU/PANI-ES-HCl composite is potentially a useful flexible material for actuators in low electric fields. © 2016 Elsevier B.V.

A new intercalation of Indium and zinc phthalocyanine(ZnPc) thin film is developed by using thermal co-evaporation technique. The exciton dissociation at the interface of Indium Tin Oxide(ITO) electrode and Indium doped ZnPc upon laser irradiation is observed through the transient photovoltage measurement technique in comparison with the interfacial exciton dissociation occurred at ITO/pristine ZnPc interface. The occurring transient photovoltage spike is regarded as the effect of exciton dissociation at ITO/In-doped ZnPc interface and depends on the amount of free carrier separation by built-in field or charge carrier concentration according to doping ratio. The experiments demonstrate the existence of exciton dissociation at ITO/In-doped ZnPc interface, the direction of charges transfer is that holes are injected to ITO, whereas electrons are left in bulk film. A thin insulating layer of 6 nm thick lithium fluoride(LiF) is inserted between ITO and In-doped ZnPc to prevent the exciton dissociation at ITO/In-doped ZnPc interface and insist on the phenomenon of interfacial exciton dissociation. Further photoelectron spectroscopy experiments prove that In-doped ZnPc is hole transport material. © (2013) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

Longkong fruit abscission was found to be sensitive to external ethylene at concentrations as low as 0.05μLL-1. Ethylene induced fruit drop at the junction between the main peduncle and the calyx, at a clear abscission zone. Fruit drop at the junction between calyx and the fruit, however depended on an external force. There may or may not be an abscission zone at this site. Dipping longkong fruit in 200μLL-1 NAA solution delayed fruit abscission and slightly reduced ethylene production. NAA application was also found to reduce the effect of external ethylene treatment. Applications of 1μLL-1 1-MCP for 6h minimized the effect of external ethylene and almost doubled storage life of longkong. The combination of NAA and 1-MCP treatment did not give a synergistic effect. © 2011 Elsevier B.V.

CIO role is important to ICT success in higher education. However perception of CIO Role effectiveness could be affected by culture, this research identified relationship between cultural dimensions and perceived CIO Role Effectiveness. This research follows cultural dimensions proposed by Hofstede [1]. Assessment of CIO role effectiveness follows method proposed by Kishen [2]. Samples are selected from of CIO or ones with potential to be CIO from 3 selected universities in Thailand and Vietnam. Three selected universities represent culture differences of equivalent to culture of 6 countries from 10 ASEAN countries. In terms of cultural differences among CIO in ASEAN, the research found that they are totally different in Long-Term Orientation but they are similar in Masculinity and Indulgence. For relation between cultural dimension and perceived CIO role effectiveness, it is found that Masculinity has negative effect on Perceived CIO Role Effectiveness, but Long-term orientation and Indulgence have significantly effect on Perceived CIO Role Effectiveness. As human resources in ASEAN will be more unified upon the beginning of ASEAN Economic Community in 2015, this research reveals that CIO role in higher education in different ASEAN countries will be perceived differently, in term of role effectiveness. The research also reveals that any CIO who wants to be perceived as effective CIO in ASEAN should perform their role in the way to enhance Long-Term Orientation and Indulgence, while decrease Musculinity. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2012.

Recommendation systems are widely used to improve market potential in theater business today. However, the efficiency of the personalized movie recommendation system (PMRS) using model-based techniques is related to employed classifier and a number of features. This research aims to select a suitable classification model by feature adjustment method for creating the recommendation rules of PMRS. The suggestion model is appraised using retrieval performance measures by Accuracy between 3 algorithms of classification consisting of J48, Naïve Bayes (NB) and Multilayer Perceptron (MLP). The datasets for model construction are collected through surveying from 383 movie audiences who live in Nakhon-Ratchasima province, Thailand. The results of the accuracy performance show that J48 algorithm produces the finest accuracy (70.28%) followed by NB (68.28%) and MLP (66.23%), respectively. In addition, the performance of J48 by feature adjustment method provides 58 combinations which are created from 6 features of movie audience's profile and 19 features of movie genres. The results of feature adjustment method present the consistency between accuracy performance and a number of features. However, the progress of recommendation rules set selection for PMRS will be chosen only 36 high performance combinations of adjustment features and these combinations will be applied to the development of a new personalized movie recommendation system.

Various aspects of the reproductive success of Garcinia atroviridis Griff. were studied. Controlled pollination experiments were carried out in an orchard located in Songkhla province, southern Thailand, from February to July 2003. Floral longevity, stigma receptivity, and pollen viability were examined before carrying out the experiments. Three pollination treatments were compared: open pollination, manual pollination with bags, and bags without pollination (apogamy). Although there was no significant difference in the initial fruit set, bagged and manual pollination produced a significantly greater fruit drop rate than apogamy or natural pollination at one week after the flowers had been pollinated. On the other hand, the apogamy treatment had a greater fruit drop rate than natural and manual pollination treatments before fruit maturation. In addition, unpollinated bagged flowers bore fewer and smaller fruit than naturally and manually cross-pollinated flowers. Although the fruits from unpollinated flowers were capable of asexual seed formation, they produced fewer seeds and had poorer seed quality (defined as average fresh weight and germination rate) than those from the other treatments. The occurrence of asexual and sexual reproduction was also studied using Random Amplification of Polymorphic DNA (RAPD) analysis and by comparing the patterns of bands produced from DNA extracted from the offspring of the naturally cross-pollinated fruits. On average, 58% of the offspring had a genetic constitution identical to that of the maternal parent (ranging from 36% to 87%), indicating that some offspring were produced without prior fertilisation. However, the remainder showed polymorphism, demonstrating the occurrence of sexual reproduction. These findings indicate that facultative apomixis occurred in the study population. However, a residual sexuality was important for fruit production, fruit size, normal seed set and seed quality.

A solid phase extraction (SPE) cleanup procedure was modified and successfully applied for the determination of organochlorine pesticide residues (OCPs) in fresh food items. The samples were extracted with a solvent mixture of dichloromethane and acetone. Sample cleanup was performed by C18 SPE cartridges. The pesticide residues were eluted with (1:1) hexane and petroleum and the eluate was preconcentrated by nitrogen gas before being analyzed by GC-ECD. The recoveries of all target OCP residues were in the range of 74.55 % to 102.4 %. The instrumental limit of detection (LOD) and limit of quantification (LOQ) for OCPs were ranging from 0.005 to 0.035 ng/mL and 0.015 to 0.106 ng/mL, respectively. The present study showed that commonly detected OCPs in analysed samples were HCHs, heptachlor and ensosulfan at wide range concentrations. We found that carrot samples were contaminated with higher levels of HCHs and endosulfan sulfate at the concentration range of 12.36-31.74 ng/mL and 8.20-12.55 ng/mL, respectively. This study provides important information on the current contamination status of fresh food items which widely consumed by local people and point to the action needed for controlling.

The three identical lab-scale upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactors were operated continuously for treating cannery seafood wastewater at seven hydraulic retention times (HRTs) of 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 0.5 and 0.25 days. The different of granule sizes from three sources: a cassava factory (CS), a seafood factory (SS), and a palm oil mill (PS), average sizes in the range 1.5-1.7, 0.7-1.0 and 0.1-0.2 mm respectively were used as inocula for anaerobic digestion. The UASB-R1 used only granules from seafood factory (R1-SS), the UASB-R2 used mixed granules from seafood with cassava factory (R2-SS+CS) and the UASB-R3 used mixed granules from seafood factory with palm oil mill (R3-SS+PS). In this study selected mathematical models including Monod, Contois, Grau second-order and modified Stover-Kicannon kinetic models were applied to determine the substrate removal kinetics of UASB reactor. Kinetic parameters were determined through linear regression using experimental data obtained from the steady-state experiment and subsequently used to predict effluent COD. The results showed that Grau second-order and modified Stover-Kicannon kinetic models were more suitable than that of others for predicting the effluent COD, with high the correlation coefficient (R2). In addition, the UASB-R2 from mixed granules with cassava factory (SS+CS) gave the best performance and highest coefficient value. © 2016 Penerbit UTM Press. All rights reserved.

Interactive multimedia application as e-books has benefits and capabilities for enhancing learning rate and increasing students' concentration and involvement in the learning activities. This study presents interactive e-book design areas to support literacy learning for language minority students within the primary school level. There are three main components of design framework including multimedia design, interactive design, and learning design. Moreover, the researcher attempts to design all three components based on the cultural theme to help language minority students reflect their own cultures and begin to understand the cultures of the language that they are learning. The prototype consists of two main modules including manual module and automatic module. Furthermore, the researcher would like students to interact with the program through interactive whiteboard as a cooperative tool in the classroom. The interactive e-book is expected to be an alternative educational tool to solve the learning problems of language minority students. © 2015 Infonomics Society.
