The inhibition efficiency (IE) of phyllanthus amarus extract (PAE)-Zn 2+system, in controlling corrosion of carbon steel in an aqueous solution containing 60 ppm of Cl -, has been evaluated by weight loss method. Weight loss study reveals that the formulation consisting of 2 mL of PAE and 25 ppm of Zn 2+ has 98% inhibition efficiency in controlling corrosion of carbon steel immersed in an aqueous solution containing 60 ppm of Cl -. Synergistic parameters suggest that a synergistic effect exists between PAE and Zn 2+. Polarization study reveals that this system functions as mixed type of inhibitor controlling the cathodic reaction and anodic reaction to an equal extend. AC impedance spectra reveal that a protective film is formed on the metal surface. The FTIR spectra reveal that the protective film consists of Fe 2+-phyllanthus complex.

An investigation on the rearrangement of charge density distribution in response to the magnetic behavior is done on the nanosized Sn 1-xMn xO 2 systems prepared via solgel technique. The samples were analyzed using X-ray diffraction, SEM and VSM measurements. The charge ordering is found as a signature to its magnetic response from the reconstruction of the charge density in the unit cell derived from the MEM/Rietveld analysis of the X-ray structure factors. Quantitative investigation is done by analyzing the 3-dimensional, 2-dimensional and 1-dimensional charge density profiles drawn along the bonding directions. The observed para- to dia-magnetic transition with respect to doping concentration of Mn is explained using defect chemistry and the charge ordering. The MEM/Rietveld analysis is used for the first time to analyse the charge and magnetic ordering in the chosen system. © 2011 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Neem oil is used in manufacturing of insecticide, because it contains Azadirachtin which affect over six hundred species of pests. It is completely safe to non-target organisms. Azadirachtin acts as a famous natural anti- feedent, growth regulator and ovipositional repellent against insects, which makes it useful as a perfect alternative to chemical pesticides. The present investigation carried out on the biological effects of neem oil to control the Pericallia ricini. Neem oil plays on important role in evolving on ecologically and environmentally acceptable disease management system. Neem oil affects both the feeding and growth rates of Pericallia ricini. The results recorded in the present study that neem oil was less economic, less hazardous to the environment and it was effective to control the P. ricini pest.

The inhibition efficiency (IE) of malachite green- (MG) Zn 2+ system in controlling corrosion of carbon steel in well water containing 665 pm of Cl-(model corrosion medium) has been evaluated by weight loss method. Weight loss study reveals that the formulation consisting of 30 ppm of MG and 25 ppm of Zn 2+ has 95% inhibition efficiency in controlling corrosion of carbon steel immersed in well water (model corrosion medium). Synergistic parameters suggest that a synergistic effect exists between MG and Zn 2+. Polarization study reveals that this system functions as cathodic type inhibitor controlling cathodic reaction predominantly. AC impedance spectra reveals that a protective film is formed on the metal surface. The FTIR spectra reveals that the protective film consists of Fe 2+-MG complex. This is further confirmed by UV-visible spectra and fluorescence spectra. The colour of the dye can be removed by electrolysis using platinised titanium as anode and graphite as cathode. © 2012 Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Union of Chemists in Bulgaria.

Here, room temperature ferromagnetism has been observed in Mn-doped zinc sulfide nanoparticles of ∼3 nm. Room temperature ferromagnetism in ZnS:Mn is due to defects confined to the surface of the nanoparticles. An increase in saturation magnetization is associated with broadening of a ferromagnetic resonance feature with an increase in doping level. © 2012 Published by Elsevier B.V.

In the present study, two earthworm species, Eisenia fetida and Eudrilus eugeniae were employed to degrade the vegetable wastes and agro-residues. Chemical analysis of the vermicomposts derived from vegetable wastes showed that the quantity of organic carbon was reduced from 42.1% to 31.19 and 30.19% by E. fetida and E. eugeniae, respectively. The level of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and calcium was higher in vermicompost of vegetable wastes processed by E. eugeniae than E. fetida. An ideal C/N ratio (27.44) was observed in vegetable vermicompost processed by E. eugeniae. Similarly, E. eugeniae worked vegetable waste vermicompost positively altered the height, number and area of leaves, fruit length and weight of Abelmoschus esculentus. © 2010 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.

Plumbagin, a 1, 4-Naphthalenedione isolated from the Plumbago indica, exhibited growth regulating activity in the larvae of Pericallai ricini. The fourth instar and fifth instar larvae were topically treated with 10, 20, 25, 35, 50, 75 and 100 mg mL-1 concentrations of Plumbagin, in solvent acetone. Interference in moulting process, ecdysial failure and blockage of adult emergence were the important morphogenetic abnormalities observed which resulted in the formation of larval-pupal intermediates, abnormal pupae and deformed non-viable adults. Results suggest that Plumbagin shows an effective insect growth regulating activity and exhibits great promise in suppressing the population of P. ricini. ©2013 Asian Network for Scientific Information.

Diffusion in nano cadmium sulphide is studied following reaction coordinate theory. The jump frequencies, at various temperatures are computed. The isotope effect reveals the Cadmium diffusion in nano CdS is mainly through interstitial migration. The coefficient of nano Cadmium diffusion at 900 K is three orders higher than bulk diffusion. © 2012 American Institute of Physics.

Nanoparticles of zinc sulphide in cubic sphalerite phase are synthesized by aqueous chemical method. UV-Vis absorption spectrum of nano ZnS is blue shifted from the bulk by 50 nm and methyl blue sensitized nano ZnS shows a strong visible absorption at 600 nm. PL spectrum of methyl blue sensitized ZnS shows two broad emission at 402 nm and 510 nm which are compared with earlier investigations and discussed. The solar conversion efficiency (η) of this dye sensitized solar cell (DSSC) was found to have enhanced due to charge transfer from dye molecules. © 2011 American Institute of Physics.
