In this paper, nickel was combined with multi-walled carbon nanotubes (Ni-MWNTs) to fabricate nanohybrid films on a conventional glassy carbon electrode using simultaneous electrodeposition of NiCl 2 and the MWNTs in ionic liquids (ILs). The morphologies and elemental compositions of the nanohybrid films were investigated with scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive spectroscopy. A novel non-enzymatic glucose sensor based on the Ni-MWNT nanohybrid film-modified glassy carbon electrode was described, and its electrochemical behaviors were investigated. The proposed sensor exhibited high electrocatalytic activity and good response to glucose. Under optimal conditions, the sensor showed high sensitivity (67.2 μA mM -1 cm -2), rapid response time (<2 s) and a low detection limit (0.89 μM; signal/noise ratio of 3). In particular, the upper glucose concentration limit produced a linear response of 17.5 mM. Thus, the Ni-MWNT nanohybrid films represent promising sensor materials for non-enzymatic glucose sensing in routine analyses. © 2012 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Two new metal-organic networks, namely, {[Ni2(5-CH 3-ip)2(L)2(H2O)]·4H 2O}n (1) and [Ni(2,4′-bpdc)(L)(H2O)] n (2), [5-CH3-ip = 5-methylisophthalic acid, 2,4′-bpdc = biphenyl-2,4′-dicarboxylate, and L = 1,4-bis(2-methylimidazol-3-ium-1-yl)biphenyl], were obtained from hydrothermal reactions of Ni2+ with two dicarboxylic acids and N-donor ligand, respectively. The structures of complexes 1 and 2 show polycatenated 2D + 2D → 3D framework and 2D hcb topological net, respectively. Furthermore, the thermal stability of complexes 1 and 2 are investigated. An efficient and simple synthetic method for biaryl synthesis was developed using Pd(OAc)2 as catalyst from aryl hydrazides under O2. Various biaryls were synthesized in good yields, offering an expedient protocol for the synthesis of symmetrical biaryl molecules via C - N cleavage. Pure phase BiFeO3 target was prepared by spark plasma sintering (SPS) technique. BiFeO3 films were deposited on substrate of Si (100) by pulsed laser deposition (PLD) method. By adjusting technological parameters, BiFeO3 films of high preferred orientation and high crystallinity were prepared at 650°C, O2 pressure of 2 Pa, target-substrate distance of 5 cm and laser frequency of 7 Hz and energy of 350 mJ. A series of BiFeO3 films of different thickness were obtained under such conditions. The phase and morphology of films were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). Results show that the morphology of films had high quality, there were strong correlations between the ferroelectric and ferromagnetic properties of films and the thickness, and the film with thickness of 300 nm had the optimal property.

A new coordination polymer [Cd(Hbtc)(bib)0.5]n(1) (H3btc = biphenyl-3,4′,5-tricarboxylate and bib = 1,4-bis(imidazol-1-yl)benzene) has been obtained under hydrothermal conditions. The structure of complex 1 has been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis and further characterized by elemental analysis and IR spectrum. The complex 1 shows a (3,8)-connected twofold interpenetrated three-dimensional (3D) tfz-d topology with the point symbol (43)2(46·618·84). The photoluminescence behavior of complex 1 was also discussed in paper. © 2013 Springer Science+Business Media New York.
