In order to solve the problem of short-term load optimizing distribution in complex power system with more types of generating sets, this paper designs and develops an integrated software system named Short Load Optimizing Distribution System, whose core part is composed of one main program and four subroutines. In the design process, combining multiple operating conditions and complex constraint conditions and aiming at the least running cost, an integrated load optimizing distribution mathematical model is established and the core modules are developed which are composed of dynamic property analyzing module, data calculation forecasting module and short load optimizing module. Simulation results show that using this software can reduce the consumption of coal in thermal power sets and the consumption of water in conventional electricity sets, and increase the homeostasis efficiency in pumpped storage hydroplant sets.

To coordinate the relay protection with the distribution automation system (DAS), the probability and strategy of multi-grade protection are discussed. For time-grading cooperation depending on time delay, the approaches are divided into two classes according to different operation mechanisms, driving technology and fault detection algorithms. The centralized fault allocation and restoration modes based on relay protection and distribution automation are discussed. The setting principles of two-grade time-grading protection and three-grade time-grading protection are suggested. The hybrid approach of multi-grade protection and distribution automation system for centralized fault allocation and restoration is proposed. The way to combine multi-grade protection with voltage-time type feeder automation is suggested, which can avoid the whole feeder outage due to any fault on a branch. Examples are given to explain the proposed ideas.

This paper designs a ECVT based distributed network spare power automatic switching plan for single bus sectionalized system based on GOOSE network using IEC61850 standard and associated with the secondary characteristic of analog output of ECVT. It expatiates the principle of spare power automatic switching, the charging and discharging conditions, action logics and abnormal voltage loop in automatic switch of the incoming line switching and automatic switch of sectionalized switch respectively by using the configuration and scheme of bay level devices. The plan can simplify secondary cable wiring and economize bay level devices, also can be directly applied to IEC61850-based digital substation or switching station, and has certain practical value.

IEC61850 standard provides a means to implement the interoperability between intelligent electronic devices (IED) from different manufacturers and the systems seamless integration, but protection modeling of IEC61850 is incompatible with the practical engineering application. On the basis of introducing IEC61850 object-oriented modeling techniques and IED modeling ideas, this paper summarizes the encountered problems of the IED modeling in engineering application: soft plate modeling, logic node modeling, data expansion, GOOSE modeling and logical device modeling. Combining with National Grid's latest release "Technical Specifications of DL/T 860 in Engineering", some effective and feasible solutions have been proposed to solve these difficult problems, and a middle-voltage line protection model instance is given, which is able to meet the project needs of digital substation construction.

This paper designs a scheme of redundant network communication based on IEC60870-5-103 transmission protocol and embedded ucLinux platform, which is applied to microcomputer-based relay protection devices. The scheme adopts a pair of Ethernet ports, one of which is the other's standby in hardware design, and makes use of socket programming in Linux system and data sharing or backup to achieve redundant network communication aiming at several host computers in software design. The basic application function of protocol 103 is analyzed, and aiming at the special problem about the application function in redundant network communication, the solutions to the practice of application function are proposed. The application in protection devices indicates that the scheme can improve the reliability of communication.

Quickly and accurately calculating power-frequency phasor from transient fault signals is crucial for relay protection. This paper proposes a fast method for phasor calculation. Based on matrix pencil method, a square matrix was formed by sampling matrices of input signals and reference signals. Its eigenvalues contain the information of the concerned phasors, among which the power-frequency phasor can be obtained by solving the eigenvalues. The computation burden of eigenvalues is huge. A reduced order method was proposed to simplify the calculation complexity, in which solving eigenvalues of a high order matrix was transformed into solving eigenvalues of a second order, and thus the efficiency of calculation was improved. Simulation results and theoretical analysis demonstrate that the presented method has low computational complexity and it is immune to harmonics or decaying DC components. This method also has high accuracy even for short data window. © 2013 Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering.

The conventional fault location algorithm cannot be directly applied to series compensated transmission lines because of the nonlinear V-A characteristic of metal oxide varistor (MOV) installed with the series capacitor (SC) in parallel. Therefore, based on the Bergeron line model, we deduced the current formula at the one end, using the voltage at the same end and the current at the other end. Applying the formula to the fault location, we presented a fault location algorithm for the series compensated transmission lines. In the proposed algorithm, two-end synchronous voltage and current data were used and the distributed parameter line model in the time domain was applied. The proposed algorithm does not use the model of series compensated device and is not affected by the nonlinear V-A characteristic of MOV in theory. PSCAD and Matlab were used for simulation. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm has high accuracy, and is not affected by fault types, fault positions and fault resistances. © 2013 Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering.

This paper introduces in detail the equivalent circuits and transient processes when tripping and closing switching occurred to the capacitor bank (capacitive load)and converter transformer (inductive load). Based on SIEMENS point on wave device PSD02, this paper describes the main functions of the device. It can control the CLOSE and OPEN switching instant depending on the kind of load the switching command to make the circuit-breaker with an appropriate delay and offset, i.e. the optimum switching instant is a current or a voltage zero crossing. In this instant switching impacts on power system can be minimum.

Based on the HVDC transmission systems in CSG, such as the Tian-Guang HVDC system, which the design and manufacture were completed by foreigner thoroughly, and the ±800 kV Yun-Guang HVDC system, which homemade rate has reached sixty percent, the protection systems of converter transformers used in these HVDC projects are introduced, and some typical operational experiences such as the mis-action of the non-electric quantity protection, the affection of the inrush current and the cooperation with AC and DC protections are discussed. The analysis and the conclusions are valuable to improve the maintenance ability of HVDC system.

When HVDC cable is loaded in service, temperature gradient across the cable thickness will lead to field distortion greatly at the outer surface of insulation. In this paper, we adopted a special kind of nano particle as fillers to prepare pure low density polyethylene (LDPE) and three kinds of nanocomposite with filler fraction of 1%, 3%, and 5%, respectively. The surface morphology was observed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) to prove that nano fillers were dispersed evenly. Space charge accumulation and electrical field distribution under temperature gradient were measured by the pulsed electro-acoustic (PEA) method, and the volume resistivity and DC breakdown strength of the LDPE nanocomposite were measured under different temperatures. The results show that addition of the nano fillers can effectively reduce the space charge accumulation and field distortion under temperature gradient in LDPE, and improve the DC breakdown strength. Furthermore, the volume resistivity of the LDPE nanocomposite increases at first and then decreases as temperature increasing.
