In video coding, motion estimation is the most time consuming part due to its high computational complexity. Based on the high temporal and spatial correlation of motion vector (MV), a new fast motion estimation algorithm of UMHexagonS (UMH) has been proposed to reduce computational complexity by using relatively few search points without degrading image quality, in which the modified patterns with new uneven cross, multi-hexagon-grid and hexagon are applied to. The proposed algorithm alleviates the computational burden and maintains the quality of video. Compared with the original UMH algorithm, the proposed algorithm has a better performance, and it reduces the number of search points by 32% at least and preserves similar average peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) value at the same time. © 2011 IEEE.

CFEM domain commonly occurs in fungal extracellular membrane proteins. To provide insights for understanding putative functions of CFEM, we investigate the evolutionary dynamics of CFEM domains by systematic comparative genomic analyses among diverse animals, plants, and more than 100 fungal species, which are representative across the entire group of fungi. We here show that CFEM domain is unique to fungi. Experiments using tissue culture demonstrate that the CFEM-containing ESTs in some plants originate from endophytic fungi. We also find that CFEM domain does not occur in all fungi. Its single origin dates to the most recent common ancestors of Ascomycota and Basidiomycota, instead of multiple origins. Although the length and architecture of CFEM domains are relatively conserved, the domain-number varies significantly among different fungal species. In general, pathogenic fungi have a larger number of domains compared to other species. Domain-expansion across fungal genomes appears to be driven by domain duplication and gene duplication via recombination. These findings generate a clear evolutionary trajectory of CFEM domains and provide novel insights into the functional exchange of CFEM-containing proteins from cell-surface components to mediators in host-pathogen interactions.

In order to improve the consistency of physical quality of cigarettes, the effects of five factors (operator, shift, cigarette maker, batch of cut filler and sampling time) on the stability of physical quality of cigarettes were analyzed with nested factorial design. The results showed that: 1) Cigarette maker and batch of cut filler were the main variables affecting the physical indices, sample variance and sample generalized variance. 2) For the cut filler of constant physical quality, the influence of the same cigarette maker on cigarette physical indices did not vary with sampling time. 3) Operator and shift were not the variation sources affecting the physical indices, sample variance and sample generalized variance significantly. Therefore for pursuing higher consistency and stability of cigarette physical quality, it is essential to promote, the intra- and inter-batch consistency of physical quality of cut filler and the consistency of working states of cigarette makers. © 2015, Editorial Office of Tobacco Science and Technology. To reduce labor intensity and avoid tobacco jam, tobacco flow interruption and frequent start/stop operation in manual operation of the discharge from the silo type tobacco feeder, an automatic discharge speed adjusting system was designed with industrial Ethernet and distributed programmable control technology. The system was mainly composed of a programmable logic controller, frequency converters, motors and photoelectric switches. By monitoring the status of photoelectric switches installed on the high, middle and low levels of metering tube, the running frequencies of bottom belt and elevating belt were adjusted. The results showed that the automatic system reduced manual adjusting from 26 to 3 times/batch, tobacco jam, tobacco flow interruption and start/stop of equipment decreased from 3.4 to 0.2, from 2 to 0.2, and from 182 to 36 times/batch, respectively. The reasons causing frequent tobacco jam in feeding system of CTD (Comas Tower Dryer) were investigated by analyzing the orientation of air flow in the feeding system. Tobacco jam mainly occurred between feeding airlock and the end of expansion unit, it happened when restarting tobacco feeding after a long stoppage, the steam condensate accumulated in pipelines tended to retard tobacco's moving; or tobacco flow rate dropped abruptly, the downstream tobacco conveying belt failed to match the accelerated electronic scale, it caused tobacco piling up at the junction; during drying, violent pressure fluctuation in the system and intermittent tobacco jam resulted. The feeding system was improved by adding a drainage system, installing spike rollers on the downstream conveying belt of electronic scale and an embedded sleeve connection for pipeline joints. The results of application indicated that after improvement, the frequency of tobacco jam decreased from 2.3 to 0.2 times per batch and the standard deviation of moisture content in tobacco reduced from 3.8% to 1.7%. Tobacco moved steadily, and tobacco drying quality was improved.

In order to effectively control the quality of cigarettes during production, the FMEA (Failure Mode and effects analysis) was applied in the risk management of product quality in the process of cigarette manufacturing according to the production characteristics and quality requirements of cigarette. After determining the key risk factors needed to be focused on by grading all risk factors, an FMEA method for the risk management of cigarette quality was developed, and an FMEA model for the risk management of product quality in the process of cigarette making and packing was established. The results showed that: FMEA product quality risk management could identify and control the risk points of cigarette quality throughout the manufacturing flow, which reduced product's quality risk and production cost effectively. The consumption of cigarette paper, filter rod and label decreased from 3220 to 3217 meters/case, 8395 to 8382 rods/case, 2512 to 2507 pieces/case, respectively. The production management level was improved.

For reducing the false rate in brand recognition by barcode, a cigarette case sorting system with visual inspection was designed based on template matching algorithm, which was composed of high precision color industrial camera, slit light source, industrial computer, and photoelectric sensors. By processing the image of numeric-alphabetic code on the sides of cigarette case captured by industrial camera, the brand of cigarette case was identified through template positioning matching and template precision matching, the obtained brand information was transferred to logistics sorting system, and then cigarette cases were sorted accurately. The results of application showed that the average false rate for brand detection was decreased from 12.10% to 0.28%, the inspection efficiency improved effectively, and the continuity and stability of production were ensured.

In tobacco primary processing line, there are often processing emissions with as peculiar smells, condensed water and tobacco powder dusts discharged from the production of processing equipments. In this paper, through a detailed design on the concentrated moisture exhaust system of tobacco primary processing and its control methods, the moisture-exhaust air volume's instability caused by the starting and stopping of all processing equipments in production line is solved, so as to ensure the stabilities of processing equipment's parameters and cigarette's smoke flavors and simultaneously improve the effect of processing the peculiar smells of emissions. © (2012) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

During tobacco drying, cut tobacco tends to buildup on the sidewall of the discharging hood in Comas Tower Dryer (CTD) and steam tend to condense on the sidewall and fall into tobacco, wet tobacco and wet tobacco balls may occur, therefore the sidewall was modified with electric heating after analyzing the temperature difference between the sidewall and the humid air. The sidewall was heated by electric heating elements. The relationship between the temperature of sidewall and the amount of tobacco buildup was determined via experiments, the heating temperature of sidewall was set at 80℃, and the power of heating elements was calculated according to thermodynamic formula. The results showed that the tobacco buildup reduced from 5.6 kg per batch to zero, and wet tobacco was avoided. The temperature and moisture content of cut tobacco were stable, the sensory quality of cut tobacco did not change obviously. With timely and sensitive temperature feedback, the temperature of the sidewall was controlled accurately, and the processing quality of cut tobacco was promoted effectively. ©, 2015, Editorial Office of Tobacco Science and Technology. The invention relates to a tobacco shred feeding treatment device and a method for improving the heat energy and feed liquid absorption efficiency of tobacco shred, comprising: a tobacco shred feeding machine, said tobacco shred feeding machine mainly comprises a roller, a process warm-air pipe, a power blower, a heater, a steam nozzle, a feed liquid nozzle and an air inlet pipe; the process warm-air is blown into said roller from said air inlet pipe via said steam nozzle and said heater under the action of said power blower, and mixed with the tobacco shred; said air inlet pipe is provided directly under the central axis of said roller; the opening of said air inlet pipe faces up obliquely, and the opening direction of which could be adjusted into any position within the roller according to the requirements; said steam nozzle is mounted between the power blower and the heater, to achieve heating the condensed water in the steam, and to avoid directly injecting the steam to burn the tobacco shred. Under the premise that it is not necessary to configure the tunnel heating and humidifying equipment, the process warm-air with steam can contact with the tobacco shred sufficiently to improve the heat energy and feed liquid absorption efficiency and uniformity.
