Partial discharge (PD) measurement and recognition is of great importance to assess the health condition of power transformers. Surface discharge is a typical PD event often happened within oil-paper insulation system. In this work, surface discharge over oil/pressboard interface is observed in laboratory using a digital PD measurement system. Accelerated aging experiment is performed to obtain aged oil and pressboards with different aging degrees. Then, the influences of insulation aging, electrode size as well as applied voltage on surface discharge characteristic are analyzed. Experimental results relevant to surface discharge measurements performed on lab-scale rod-To-plane electrode under different circumstances are presented with the purpose to spotlight surface discharge distributions aimed at identifying the basic nature of surface discharge over oil/pressboard interface. The obtained results would provide useful information to condition diagnosis of transformers. © 2014 IEEE.

The working status of insulators guarantees the safe-running of power system. Because the supervisory and control of insulator state is very important for intelligent control of power system in future, it is significant to development patrol power transmission line system with UAV. In this thesis, several methods to preprocess insulator images are firstly confirmed by analyzing different kinds of image preprocessing techniques, which are graying pictures, boosting up contrast and eliminating noise; secondly, texture feature extraction and recognition of insulator by edge histogram descriptor of MPEG-7 algorithm; and then, optimization and improvement of MPEG-7 algorithm yo the initial MPEG-7 have made to improve the recognition accuracy. A large number of experimental results show that the new method has the ability to identification insulator in slightly complex background picture.

A closing fault of a GIS circuit breaker was analyzed. It was found that the fault was caused by main-shaft bearing seizure due to damp. Consequently, the fault was cleared to ensure the reliability and security of power supply.

To raise the technical level of professional technological personnel significantly and improve the operation level of power network, malfunction diagnosis and elimination of the 220 kV disconnecting switch are introduced, which happened in the Wulü transformer substation. The control fault phenomenon was briefly described. According to the circuit diagram, the cause was analyzed in detail and solved successfully, the reliability and security of power supply has been ensured. Through the analysis and research of the control fault, the corresponding operating experience was summarized to improve the capability and efficiency of operation and maintenance personnel when dealing with similar fault. The improvement scheme was put forward to enhance signal-sampling capability and fault diagnostic function of micro-computer protection device. The improvement strategies were presented to ensure the quality of power supply and help decrease the cost of the electric power production.
