The polymerization of 2, 2, 2-trifluoroethyl methacrylate (TFEMA) in supercritical carbon dioxide was performed, and the effects of the monomer concentration, initiator dosage and reaction temperature on the polymerization was explored. The copolymerization of TFEMA with dodecafluoroheptyl methacrylate (MBFA-12) as comonomer was carried out. The structure of the copolymer obtained and surface properties of the films made of the copolymer were studied. The results indicate that the monomer concentration, initiator dosage and reaction temperature are the factors influencing the homopolymerization of TFEMA. The solubility of the copolymer in supercritical carbon dioxide can be improved by copolymerizing TFEMA with MBFA-12. Consequently, the number average molecular mass of the copolymer increases from 22316 to 39985, and the relative molecular mass distribution decreases from 1.93 to 1.49. In addition, the glass transition temperature of the copolymer decreases to a certain extent. The surface properties of the copolymer films are improved with the increase in the monomer MBFA-12 content of the copolymer.

The chlorotrifluoroethylene (CTFE)-vinyl acetate (VAc)-maleic anhydride (MAH) copolymer [P(CTFE-VAc-MAH)] was produced in supercritical carbon dioxide. The effect of monomer ratio on the polymerization and the structure and properties of the polymer was investigated, and the self-emulsifying property and the cross-linking reaction of the polymer were studied. The results show that the polymer particles become smaller and the fluorine content in the polymer gets lower gradually with increasing the amount of MAH monomer when the mass ratio of VAc to CTFE is 6:14. P(CTFE-VAc-MAH) self-emulsifying latex can be obtained by solution method, and the sizes of the latex particles become smaller with the increase in the content of MAH in the polymer. The polymer can take place the cross-linking reaction with polyamine and polyol on certain conditions.

Copolymer of sodium acrylate (AANa), vinyl acetate (VAc) and 2,2,2-trifluoroethyl methacylate (TFEMA) [P(AANa/VAc/TFEMA)] nano-sized fluorine-containing latex was produced by soap-free emulsion copolymerization of AANa, VAc and TFEMA. The effects of the reaction temperature, initiator dosage and monomer ratio on the polymerization was studied, with an emphasis on the latex particle size. The results indicate that the monomer conversion can reach above 97.00%, and the latex with good stability and uniform particle size distribution is obtained. In addition, nano-sized fluorine-containing latex can be produced by adjusting the content of AANa and the molar ratio of VAc to TFEMA in the feed. ©, 2015, Research Institute of Beijing.
