The diamond tools (including bit, saw blade etc) fabricated by electroplating, hot press sintering and brazing process were corroded through electrolytic methods. The comparisons of particle size, surface morphology, transparency and chroma of the diamond tools before and after corroded were done. The room and thermal impact strength of diamond tools were measured. The effect of fabrication method on properties of diamond tools was studied. The results show that, particle size of diamond has no change after bath soaking and hot pressing, but it becomes bigger after brazing. Arranging the order of fabrication methods by diamond surface roughness in descending order, transparency from weak to strong and chroma value from low to high is brazing, hot press sintering and electroplating. Impact strength test indicates that both room and thermal impact strength values of diamond decrease after corrosion no matter which manufacturing method, the decrease extent of thermal impact strength order is brazing>hot press sintering>electroplating.

Technology of ordered arrangement not only reduces the cost of raw materials but also improves the service life and efficiency of tool. The horizontal and vertical spacing of diamong grains with regular pattern were analyzed and calcuated considering the cutting mechanism of diamond bit. It is shown that both particle size(d) and horizontal interpaticle distance (l) of diamond affect the diameter of cutting valley (D) while the vertical interparticle idstance (s) affected the performance of self-sharpening of diamond. The results of distance calculation indicate that the reasonable value of horizontal distance between diamond particles is (1~4/3) D where D = (2.8~3.1) d, the overlapping height h = (1/3~1/2)d, and the vertical spacing of diamond s = (1/2~2/3) d, The value of both horizontal and vertical distances between diamond particles should be appropriately adjusted when drilling in different rock formations or using various techniques for diamond fabrication. Based upon the determination of reasonable distance values, the industrialization of diamond bit with ordered arrangement of diamonds can be achieved by using the template methor or electromagnetic adsorption approach.

Principles of raw material selection when producing diamond bits are briefly introduced. Calculation formulae and progress by Excel, as well as basic principles, calculating program and formulae of each ingredient are listed. Results show that this program has advantages of fast calculation, easy handling and printing. The program is good for the improvement and management of the production data.
