In view of incomplete consideration to maintenance correlation in traditional classified methods, a new maintenance correlation method to describe multi-unit system was put forward from four aspects such as time correlated, fault correlated, structure correlated and function correlated. Meanwhile, the influence of various maintenance correlations on opportunistic group maintenance was analyzed. Taking opportunistic grouping minimization of units as target, the opportunistic grouping maintenance optimal model of multi-unit system was constructed. With Biogeography Based Optimization (BBO) algorithm, the best opportunistic maintenance threshold sets about correlating components in the system was defined. Through examples, an opportune moment on which oil valve in marine fuel injection system could launch opportunity maintenance with piston and needle valve two related parts was analyzed. It showed that the proposed model provided a feasible method to group maintenance for the multi-unit system.
