Manakudy estuary is the second largest estuary in Kanyakumari District. It has a total area of 145 hectares. It is situated about 8 kilometers North west of cape comorin falling within the latitude 8° 41 and 8° 21 1N and longitude 77° 261 and 77° 301E. The sediment core characteristics were studied in 3 stations viz S1, S2, & S3. The sediments were grouped under the following types viz sand, silt and clay. The sediment texture showed marked variation with highest values of sand at station S2&S3. The amount of silt was higher at station 1. The amount of clay was higher at station 1 and low at station 2. The determination of elements in sediments in relation to depth showed that various elements were present in different concentration. The maximum recorded values of elements in Manakudy estuary are Cu 17.14Pb 29.54, Mn 103.7, Ni 94, Zn 52, Al 9.4, Co 15.72 and Cr 78μgg1. The ANOVA results showed significant correlation in Ni, Zn, Al between samples and stations. The enrichment factor-EF>2; Anthropogenic factor-AF>l; Index of Geoaccumulation-Igeo
