Objective: To investigate the expression and significance of Lumican protein and Parkin protein in hepatocellular carcinoma, and to study their correlation. Methods: The expressions of Lumican protein and Parkin protein in 62 cases of HCC and 62 cases of para-carcinoma liver tissues were analyzed by immunohistochemistry method. Results: (1)The expression negative rate of Lumican protein(35.5%) and Parkin protein (32.3%) in hepatocellular carcinoma was significantly higher than that in the para-carcinoma liver tissues(P<0.05). (2)Lumican expression had no correlation with gender, tumor size, AFP level, HBsAg and cirrhosis, but had correlation with Edmondson grade and thrombus in the portal vein(P<0.05). (3)Parkin expression had no correlation with gender, tumor size, cirrhosis and HbsAg, but had correlation with Edmondson grade, AFP level, and thrombus in the portal vein(P<0.05). (4)The expression of Lumican protein was positively associated with Parkin(r=0.450, P<0.05). Conclusion: Lumican and Parkin may play an important role in the development and progression of liver cancer and may be a new target for cancer therapy. Source

It has been proposed that the inflammatory response of monocytes/ macrophages induced by oxidized low-density lipoprotein (oxLDL) is a key event in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis. MicroRNA-155 (miR-155) is an important regulator of the immune system and has been shown to be involved in acute inflammatory response. However, the function of miR-155 in oxLDL-stimulated inflammation and atherosclerosis remains unclear. Here, we show that the exposure of human THP-1 macrophages to oxLDL led to a marked up-regulation of miR-155 in a dose-dependent manner. Silencing of endogenous miR-155 in THP-1 cells using locked nucleic acid-modified antisense oligonucleotides significantly enhanced oxLDL-induced lipid uptake, up-regulated the expression of scavenger receptors (lectinlike oxidized LDL receptor-1, cluster of differentiation 36 [CD36], and CD68), and promoted the release of several cytokines including interleukin (IL)-6,-8, and tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α). Luciferase reporter assay showed that targeting miR-155 promoted nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB) nuclear translocation and potentiated the NF-κB-driven transcription activity. Moreover, miR-155 knockdown resulted in a marked increase in the protein amount of myeloid differentiation primary response gene 88 (MyD88), an important adapter protein used by Toll-like receptors to activate the NF-κB pathway. Our data demonstrate that miR-155 serves as a negative feedback regulator in oxLDL-stimulated THP-1 inflammatory responses and lipid uptake and thus might have potential therapeutic implications in atherosclerosis. The objective of this study was to investigate the method of operational treatment for bilateral tuberous goiter. The 57 cases of bilateral tuberous goiter were compared with 79 cases of tuberous goiter treated by the traditional method. The results showed all the 57 cases were successful with one case of cough, without injury of recurrent laryngeal nerve, or anesthetic feeling or hyperspasmia. The occurrence rate of complication was 1.75%. Compared with the traditional operation method (χ 2 = 7.75, P<0.05), the bleeding amount during operation about 10-20 mL; In the followed up two years, there were 3 cases of nodules recurrence with the rate of 5.26%. Compared with the traditional operation method (χ 2 =4.699, P<0.05). The results of primary researches have shown the operation method is feasible with little bleeding, low rate of complication and rare to nodule recurrence. So, it is worth publicizing. Source
