Objective: To observe and understand the morphology and structure of Acarophenax tribalii in order to create a new record of this mite in China. Methods: The stored grain samples (rice and brown rice) were collected from the storage of local dwellers, and mites breeding in the products were isolated. Then mite samples were prepared and identified as the previous protocols, and the species was classified in accordance with Hughes. Results: A. tribalii was detected in the grain samples. The light microscopic examination exhibited ovally shaped idiosoma of this species, and the abdomen of the male was more inflated than that of the female. By general view, the propodosomatal plate appeared triangle-like, and its anterior margin was covered by the gnathosoma. Leg I consisted of four segments, and its tibia and tarsus healing were fused into a stubby tibiotarsus. A tarsulus occurred at the end of leg II , III and IV, with a claw born at each leg. Conclusion: The morphology and structure of A. tribalii are characterized. Summary: Aims: Endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) are involved in vascular repair and homeostasis after vascular injuries. In this study, we aimed to explore whether bone marrow (BM)-derived EPCs contribute to neointima formation and reendothelialization in rabbit elastase-induced aneurysm after flow diverter treatment. Methods: Elastase-induced aneurysms were created in New Zealand male rabbits. Three weeks after model creation, flow diverter was implanted to cover the induced aneurysm neck. Autologous EPCs were isolated from bone marrow, expanded ex vivo, double labeled with Hoechst 33,342 and CFSE(carboxyfluorescein diacetate succinimidyl ester), and transplanted transvenously into the rabbits. The rabbits were assigned into three groups. The first group received autologous transfusion of double-labeled EPCs from the first day after stent implantation, and the second group received transfusion from the fifteenth day. The autologous transfusion was given at a 3-day interval and continued for 2 weeks. Fluorescence-labeled cells were tracked under fluorescence microscope at the aneurysm neck and parent artery in the two groups. The third group was established as control group without EPCs transplantation. Scanning electron microscope was used to investigate the reendothelialization rate between the former two groups and the control group. Results: In the first group, double-positive EPCs were found in 3/5 rabbits and mainly located in the subendothelial space and around the stent struts. In the second group, double-positive EPCs were found in 2/5 rabbits and mainly located on the surface of neointima. More endothelial-like cells were observed on the neointima of aneurysm neck and stented parent artery in the groups with EPCs transplantation than control group without EPCs transplantation, but the difference on the number of these cells did not reach statistical significance. Conclusions: BM-derived EPCs participate in neointima formation and reendothelialization in elastase-induced aneurysm after flow diverter treatment. The EPCs may differentiate into different cell types according to the stages of neointima formation in vivo. © 2013 Blackwell Publishing Ltd.

A community-based intervention study was conducted to assess a nutrition education intervention on western style fast food consumption among Chinese children and parents. Eight kindergartens from three district areas of Hefei City (a total of 1252 children aged 4-6 years and their parents) were randomly selected. Descriptive and analytical statistical methods were used to evaluate the baseline, midterm, and final western style fast food knowledge, attitude, and practice in both parents and children were used to identify and compare the knowledge, attitude, and practice in the parents and children. Parents and children were divided into intervention and control groups based on nutrition education status. Consumption of western style fast food at breakfast in Chinese children and parents is not high. The main reasons for this in children is that consumption of western style fast food is not viewed as food, but rather as a gift or interesting. The time of childrens consumption of western style fast food is mostly likely to be in the weekends. The nutrition education modified the parents western style fast food behavior (p < 0.01), although it did not change significantly in children. The healthy nutrition concept should be built up among Chinese, especially in children. Insights from the families provide leads for future research and ideas for the nutrition education.

To establish a three-dimensional finite element model of the L(5)/S(1) motion segment with percutaneous axial lumbosacral screw and analyze the biomechanical stress on the screw. With the help of related software and the Mechanical Virtual Human of China, a three-dimensional finite element model was established. Three different loading conditions on the screw were analyzed with this model. Peak stresses on the screw under three loading conditions were 175.334 MPa, 183.765 MPa and 146.237 MPa, respectively. Generally, stress values were relatively low. The stress values were relatively high at the point of interbody fusion and middle part of the screw, all the highest values being localized to the upper and lower threads closest to the middle part. Comparison among the three conditions showed that torque load was the greatest, followed by vertical load, with lateral bending being the least. Percutaneous axial lumbosacral screw easily meets normal loading conditions and may be an effective method for lumbosacral fusion. © 2010 Tianjin Hospital and Blackwell Publishing Asia Pty Ltd.

Objective To explore the clinical characteristics, diagnosis, therapy and prognostic features of granulocytic sarcoma (GS). Methods Retrospective analysis was used to analyse 10 cases who were diagnosed with GS. Results Five patients were diagnosed with primary GS. GS was accompanied by APL in one case, CML in 3 cases and MDS in one case. Patients were treated with resection and chemotherapy, or imatinib treatment. Follow-up data were available from 9 patients, with 2 patients being still alive. The survival of one patient who received high-dose cytarabine chemotherapy was 66 months. The other 7 patients died of tumor-related diseases, and their survival ranged from 4 to 17 months. Conclusion GS is a rarely diagnosed disease. A correct diagnosis of GS depends on detailed morphological examination and immunohistochemical study. The clinical outcome of patients is poor, and AML-type chemotherapy is the proper treatment for GS. High-intensity chemotherapy and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation might improve long-term survival.

To investigate the species and breeding density of the acaroid mites in the stored dry fruits, and understand their diversity and community distribution. The stored dry fruits were collected from 30 stores and warehouses in China, and the mites were isolated from the previous samples. Twenty species of acaroid mites, belonging to 16 genera under 6 families, were identified from the total 49 stored dry fruit samples, in which the Tyrophagus putrescentiae Acarus siro, Charpoglyphus lactis and Caloglyphus berlesei are predominant. High breeding density of acaroid mites was found in the stored dry fruits. This indicates that the dried fruits in storages are seriously contaminated by the acaroid mites, and such infestation should be positively controlled to reduce the potential harm public health.

Objective: To observe the Tyrophagus palmarum and its hypopus in feed of Tenebrio molitor. Methods: Feed samples were collected from T. molitor farms, and T. palmarum and its hypopus were separated from the samples by the vibration sieve method and floating method. The glass specimens were prepared and T. palmarum and its hypopus were observed under an optical microscope. Results: Under the light microscope, the skin of T. palmarum was smooth and bright, the color of legs and chelicerae was relatively dark, the length of dorsal seta d2 was 3-4 times longer than di and la; The Wi in tarsus of leg I, II was short rod, and its top was not tapered; the sucker plate in tarsus of leg IV located in the middle of the section. The hypopus was oblate, and there were two pairs of legs in front which extended to body. The rear end of hypopus became pointless and round, wrapping around a transparent and ossification skin. Conclusion: Light microscopy shows the morphological characteristics of T. palmarum and its dormant body, providing the basis for identifying the hypopus.

To study the effects of recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein-7 (rhBMP-7) on osteoblast differentiation of murine bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs). The BMSCs were collected from murine bone marrow by density gradient centrifugation. Cells were adherent cultured and expanded in vitro. RhBMP-7 was added into the culture medium of the 3rd passage BMSCs. Five days later, we performed alkaline phosphatase (ALP) staining and detected ALP activity and osteocalcin (OC) content. Osteoblast differentiation marker gene including OC and collage I (Col-I) were assayed by RT-PCR. Total protein was isolated and the secretion of Col-I in the cells was measured by Western blotting. The staining intensity of ALP in the group with rhBMP-7 was stronger than that in the negative control group. ALP activity and OC content of rhBMP-7 group were obviously higher than that of the negative control group. The mRNA of OC and Col-I and the protein of Col-I were highly expressed in the group induced by rhBMP-7. RhBMP-7 can induce murine BMSCs to differentiate into osteoblast in vitro.
