Spruce seeds of 7 seed lots from the Jeseníky Mts., Krušné hory (Ore Mts.), Jizerské hory (Jizera Mts.), Krkonoše (Giant Mts.), Orlické hory (Eagle Mts.), foothills and seed orchard were sorted by LA-K gravity separator into 4 size fractions according to specific weight and size. Seed quality, field germination and seedling growth rate were evaluated. There was no demonstrable relationship between seed weight and germination. Decline in the seed quality with increasing altitude of origin described in literature has not been proved. Pre-sowing treatment markedly accelerate germination of seedlings. Soil emergence was significantly influenced by both the seed origin and size fractions. The heaviest seeds with good germination and emergence rate were obtained from the seed orchard. The seed origin (altitude) highly affected the dynamics of seedling height growth. While a considerable proportion of seedlings originating from seed stands of mountain vegetation zone stopped height growth in June, seedlings from seeds from lower altitude and the seed orchard continued to grow very well. Impact of different timing of growth on the size of seedlings is the subject of our further research.

In the Pekelsky stream research catchment (Bohemian-Moravian Highland, Czech Republic), the chemistry of precipitation and soil water was studied in different types of forest stands (mature and young spruce and beech stands, clear-cut). Data from 1996 to 2008 showed that the average year fallout of protons decreased both in the stands and in the clear-cuts. In all research plots, decrease of the protone (H+) fallout in precipitation was registered. Within the research plots, decrease of S042- 4, Ca2+, Mg2+, Al3+ and heavy metals fallout was recorded. On the other hand, NH+ 4, NO- 3, Cl-showed disunited trends. In the water from humus horizon (O), element concentrations increased. Decomposition of the upper humus layer and organic material of the upper soil horizons releasing measured elements can be stimulated by increased soil temperature depending on high air temperature or after felling.
