We report the synthesis of Y 1 - x Cd x FeO 3 - δ nanocrystals in the range x = 0-0.2. The Y 1 - x Cd x FeO 3 - δ materials were shown to be single-phase by X-ray diffraction, with an average crystallite size from 23 to 34 nm, depending on composition. With increasing cadmium oxide content, the size of the Y 1 - x Cd x FeO 3 - δ nanocrystals decreases and their magnetization rises. © 2011 Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.

We studied effect of therapy with fixed combination of lercanidipine and enalapril on 24-hour blood pressure (BP) profile in 34 elderly patients (mean age 76.4±5.2 years, 14 men, 20 women) with degree II hypertension. After clinical examination patients were given lercanidipine/enalapril combination (10/10 mg/day). The dose was increased to 10+20 mg/day when necessary. Assessment of efficacy was conducted on Rate of achievement of target BP [systolic (S) BP <150 mm HG, diastolic (D) BP<90 mmHg] and dynamics of parameters of 24-hour BP profile. Re-examinations were carried out on weeks 4.8 and 12 of treatment. Administration of lercanidipine/enalapril combination was associated with mean 24-hour SBP and DBP lowering (by15.3 and 8.7%, respectively). Diurnal and nocturnal SBP/DBP decreased by 15.7/9.2 and 14.1/8.5%, respectively. BP variability also significantly decreased: of diurnal SBP/DBP - 3.8/4.1 mm Hg (21.7/24.7%), of nocturnal SBP/DBP - 2.8/4.1 mm Hg (17.9/19.6%). There was no significant dynamics of the heart rate. Therapy with lercanidipine/enalapril combination for 12 weeks did not lead to the deterioration of carbohydrate, lipid metabolism, or renal function. Thus using lercanidipine/enalapril combination we observed pronounced antihypertensive effect which consisted in decrease of mean BP and normalization of BP circadian rhythm of blood pressure.

We analyzed the results of treatment of 432 patients with chronic hemorrhoids using different variants of latex ligation. New technique including ligation of mucosa and submucosa of low-ampullar rectum providing ligation of hemorrhoidalvessels, lifting and recto-anal repair is developed and suggested. This method is advisable to use in case of chronic internal hemorrhoids stages I and II. The authors recommend simultaneous combined ligation of mucosa of low-ampullar rectum and internal hemorrhoids for stages III and IV. Different variants of latex ligation with external hemorrhoids excision were used in 103 patients. Pointed variants of latex ligation preserve important advantages including mini-invasiveness, simplicity and wide availability, low cost. Good remote results were obtained after these procedures in 87.3% of observations. Suggested tactics extends use of latex ligation and increases its effectiveness in treatment of different stages and forms of chronic hemorrhoids.Abstract available from the publisher.

Investigations of intact dental enamel as well as carious-affected human dental enamel were performed using infrared spectromicroscopy and X-ray diffraction applying synchrotron radiation. Caries of enamel was shown to be characterized by an increase in the number of deformation and valence vibrations for N-C-O, N-H and C=O bonds, a decrease of the crystallinity index, and by the absence of the preferable orientation of hydroxyapatite crystals within the affected enamel. This indicates the presence of destructive processes in the organic matrix of hard tooth tissues. © 2013 International Union of Crystallography Printed in Singapore-all rights reserved.

Currently, dental caries is the main reason of patient visits to dentists. A great deal of scientific work is dedicated to the study of enamel caries. The reason for this is the necessity for more detailed study of the pathogenesis of dental caries and other pathological processes occurring in tooth enamel. The application of modern high-technological methods of research has made it possible to study enamel structure in detail. Hard dental tissues are composed of organic and inorganic components and water. The organic substance consists of proteins, lipids, and carbohydrates. At different ages, caries intensity may vary. The carious process often develops during the first months after the tooth eruption but much less in adulthood and old age. These processes are mainly associated with the mechanisms of ionic exchange between the oral cavity and hard dental tissues. Different groups of teeth are differently affected by the carious process. Previous studies have revealed that age is an important factor influencing on the structure and chemical composition of hard dental tissues. Various recent works at the Department of Therapeutic Dentistry of Voronezh N.N. Burdenko State Medical Academy (VSMA) have studied not only the structural-morphological features of the enamel in children and adults but also the level of metabolic processes inside it. As a result of aging, teeth change both the enamel structure and the level of its ionic processes, but unfortunately, these changes have not been well characterized in teeth with conventional age-specific differences. © 2015 Kunin et al.

The article considers the efficiency of using a new therapeutic approach in the therapy of secondary osteoarthritis in patients with rheumatoid arthritis. The dynamics of the Cartilage Oligomeric Matrix Protein, the activity of the disease based on DAS28, and the cytokine profile are estimated. Activity of glutamine synthetase in the hepatocytes of healthy animals and animals with chronic CCl4-induced hepatitis was studied on white mature female rats after liver resection (15-20% of organ weight) and hyperbaric oxygenation (3 atm, 50 min, 3 times). Surgically operated left and non-operated middle lobes of the liver were analyzed on day 3 after liver resection and exposure to hyperbaric oxygenation. On day 65 of CCl4 poisoning, activity of glutamine synthetase decreased in both lobes and did not recover on day 3 after toxin cessation. Liver resection under conditions of CCl4-induced hepatitis restored reduced activity of glutamine synthetase in both liver lobes to the normal level. In healthy rats, the increase in glutamine synthetase activity after liver resection was found only in the middle lobe of the liver. Hyperbaric oxygenation enhanced the stimulatory effect of liver resection on glutamine synthetase activity in hepatocytes during chronic CCl4-induced hepatitis. In healthy animals with liver resection, activity of glutamine synthetase did not change after hyperbaric oxygenation, while normally oxygenation inhibited glutamine synthetase activity. © 2016 Springer Science+Business Media New York

The review provides a general idea about the types of metallic alloys and the pure metals used as implant materials in dental and orthopedic surgery. Their corrosive behavior in both real solutions and various media that model human biological fluids is described. Based on the literature data, it is concluded that multicomponent alloys containing titanium, niobium, zirconium, tungsten, molybdenum, aluminum, and silicon are the most resistant to corrosion. Y 1 - x La x FeO 3 (x = 0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4) nanocrystals have been prepared by a sol-gel process. With increasing lanthanum content (x from 0 to 0.4), their size decreases significantly (from 34 to 16 nm), whereas their magnetization increases. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of dalargin on the state of lipid peroxidation (LPO) and antioxidant system in patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) and on the background of metabolic syndrome (MS) in a group of 123 patients with stable coronary artery disease and MS (mean age 56.7 ± 5.1 years). For this purpose, the blood redox potential (EP), total antioxidant activity (TAA), level of oxidized low density lipoproteins (LDL), and activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD) were compared between the group receiving a standard medical therapy (ST) for coronary heart disease (group 1, n=63) and that with supplementary dalargin administration (ST + D) in a dose of 1 mg intranasally twice a day for 10 days (group 2, n=60), using the same dose for 10 days in the next two months (total 3 courses over 3 months). It was found that patients with CHD + MS upon 3-month ST showed no statistically significant changes in parameters characterizing the oxidative potential of blood (EP) and antioxidant protection of blood (oxidized LDL level, SOD activity). The inclusion of dalargin into therapy (ST + D) led to a significant decrease in the oxidative stress parameters (blood EP by 10.5%, oxidized LDL level by 14%, p < 0.001) and increase in the blood antioxidant properties (SOD activity by 36.1%, TAA by 25.3%, p < 0.001).
