The review summarizes available data about the influence of GABA-ergic substances on the immune system functional activity under both normal and pathology conditions. Analysis of information in the literature and publications shows that positive/inhibitory effects of GABA and its derivatives on the immune system depend on the overall background organism condition, as well as on parameters such as the level of antigenic stress. In addition, it is shown that changes in the immune reactivity achieved through the GABA-ergic system are dopamine and serotonin dependent. The immunotropic action of GABA and GABA-ergic substances is evidently determined by activating effect upon the multi-level immunogenesis control system, in particular, the GABA-sensitive receptors of the central nervous system and immunocompetent organs, as well as hypothalamo-pituitary-adrenal complex. © 2011.

The synthesis of 10-chloroethyl-2,3,4,10-tetrahydropyrimido[1,2-α] benzimidazole was described. The nucleophilic substitution of the chlorine atom by various amines was studied. As a result, 10-alkylaminoethyl-substituted derivatives of this tricycle containing alkylamines and 4-substituted piperazines were obtained. These compounds exhibited 5-HT 2 antagonist activity; platelet antiaggregant properties; and moderate P2Y 1 -antagonist, antiarrhythmic, and hypoglycemic action. © 2012 Springer Science+Business Media New York.

Compound RU-792 showed pronounced anti-ischemic activity and improved survival of rats with brain ischemia by normalizing parameters of spontaneous motor activity and reducing neurological deficit within 3 post-operative days being superior to the reference drug mexidol by this parameter. RU-792 inhibited the formation of conjugated dienes and malonic dialdehyde and increased activity of the antioxidant enzyme glutathione peroxidase thereby modulating the parameters of free radical oxidation in rats subjected to ischemia more effectively than mexidol. © 2015, Springer Science+Business Media New York.

Streptozotocin-mduced diabetes leads to the development of endothelial dysfunction, as evidenced by decreased expression ot endothelial nitric oxide synmase (eNOS) and increased expression of endothelin-1 as specific markers of endothelial disorders. All test substances showed endotelioprotective activity by increasing the concentration of eNOS and reducing the level of endothelin-1. With respect to the degree of impact on the eNOS and endothelin-1 levels, the compounds studied can be rated as follows: sulodexide 〉 meksidol.

We studied antioxidant activity of new derivative of pyrrolo[1,2-α] benzimidazole RU-792 and compared its effects on free radical processes with those of the reference antioxidant Trolox in four model free-radical systems. RU-792 had high antioxidant activity determined by its intrinsic antiradical properties. RU-792 was superior to Trolox by antioxidant activity in the models of Fe2+-induced chemiluminescence of lipids with 2,2-diphenyl-1- picrylhydrazyl and 2,2'-azino-bis-(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid), but less effective in the model of luminol-dependent chemiluminescence. © 2013 Springer Science+Business Media New York.
