The article summarizes the results of 15 years examination of coating reference surfaces. The 15 reference surfaces were made in 1997 using different type of coating systems. After forming the coatings and after 10 and 15 years control tests had been done. According to the 15-year-old test results, the coating systems had been ordered. Interesting information regarding the changes in adhesion had been also obtained.


The author looks over the expected corrosion processes of hot-dip galvanized, profiled steel sheets with case studies in different circumstances. Deals with the phenomenon of white rusting, and the background of this.


The author deals with the types of cast iron its mechanical and metallurgical properties. The hypothetical corrosion mechanism of cast irons is analyzed. Based on professional literature and own examinations water side and soil side corrosion behavior and corrosion rate of grey cast iron and ductile iron pipes is compared. He states that the corrosion rate of ductile iron is slightly lower than the corrosion rate of grey cast iron. It is shown that the main corrosion process of gray cast iron is graphitization, while in case of ductile iron pitting corrosion is expected. It draws attention to the fact that these days the wall thickness of the ductile iron pipes is half of the older gray cast iron pipes due to the better mechanical properties. Nearly the same corrosion rate punctures the thin pipe wall sooner, therefore the ductile pipe must be protected against corrosion inside and outside by coating.


The authors present the tank farm in Szajol MOL depot and the 6 phase realization of full-scale cathodic protection. They process the 20 years of operation experience.

Corrosion Observer (Korróziós Figyelõ), this technical scientific journal has been entering its 50th volume in 2010. The journal mainly deals with corrosion protection, but there are also several associative related professions in it. On the occasion of this jubilee, some historical research had been done, since the history of Corrosion Observer is also the history of VEKOR (Chemical Corrosion Organization). And we also got to know the foundation story of NEVIKI (Research Institute for Heavy Chemical Industries) too. In this review chemical industrial history, formation of NEVIKI and VEKOR and the beginning of the Journal is talked, and some interesting statistical data is presented.

Approximately in the 30 percent of corrosion damages, microbiological corrosion has to be taken into consideration. The author describes the mechanism of bacterial corrosion, the properties of biofilm, and its role in acceleration of corrosion. The more important bacteria from the point of view of corrosion and their living condition and harmful influence are discussed in 4 groups. The author discusses some possibilities of protection against bacterial corrosion. Examination method of bacterial corrosion is presented with a case study.
