Lasing of a miniature all-solid-state SRS laser based on a Nd 3+:SrMoO4 crystal with a LiF:F2 --passive Q-switch is studied. The dependences of the laser and SRS selfconversion parameters on the initial transmission of the passive Q-switch are studied experimentally and theoretically. Simulation of the lasing kinetics has shown the possibility of nonlinear cavity dumping upon highly efficient SRS selfconversion of laser radiation. An increase in the active medium length from 1 to 3 mm resulted in an increase in the energy of the output 1.17-μm SRS radiation from 20 μJ to record-high 60 μJ at the absorbed multimode diode pump energy of 3.7 mJ. © 2010 Kvantovaya Elektronika and Turpion Ltd.

The possibility of increasing the efficiency of onecascade 1.5-μm SRS lasing in a BaWO4 crystal placed into an external SRS cavity and pumped by a nanosecond Nd:YAG laser at a wavelength of 1.34 μm is studied. Conditions that prevent energy outflow to the second Stokes SRS component with a wavelength of 1.78 μm are found, which allowed us to increase the efficiency of one-cascade intracavity SRS lasing at 1.53 μm up to 60% and the slope efficiency up to the quantum limit (∼ 80 % at the SRS pulse energy up to 20 mJ). The use of pumping by laser pulse trains provided the possibility of increasing the 1.53-μm SRS radiation energy to 40 mJ in a three-pulse train. © 2010 Kvantovaya Elektronika and Turpion Ltd.

We studied the possibility of controlling phase-locked lasing of a set of lasers with self-pumped phase-conjugate gain-grating mirrors by using a passive Q-switch and selecting the gain of one of the lasers. The ranges of stable operation are calculated by mathematical simulation and well agree with the experimental results. Single-mode radiation in the form of trains of phase-locked laser pulses are experimentally obtained for the first time in a three-channel diffraction-coupled gain-grating Nd :YAG laser system with a LiF : F- 2 2 passive Q-switch. The space-time pattern of the trains of 1.064-μm nanosecond pulses is the same in the channels with and without Q-switch and their interference pattern contrast reaches 0.81. © 2011 Kvantovaya Elektronika and Turpion Ltd.

The possibilities of implementing four-wave mixing (FWM) phase matching at stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) in a birefringent SRS-active crystal placed in a cavity with highly reflecting mirrors have been theoretically and experimentally investigated. Phase-matching angles providing conditions for five types of phase matching are determined for a calcite crystal. These types are characterised by different combinations of polarisation directions for the interacting waves and ensure FWM generation of either an anti-Stokes wave or the second Stokes SRS component. In agreement with the calculation results, low-threshold generation of the second Stokes SRS component with a wavelength 0.602 mm was observed at angles of incidence on a calcite crystal of 4.8° and 18.2°, under SRS pumping at a wavelength of 0.532 mm. This generation is due to the FWM coupling of the first and second Stokes SRS components with the SRS-pump wave. © 2013 Kvantovaya Elektronika and Turpion Ltd.

Intracavity Raman conversion of 1.34-μm radiation of a Nd : YAG laser by a BaWO4 crystal into the 1.53-μm first-Stokes component is studied in different operation regimes. In the case of passive Q-switching of the Nd : YAG laser, the SRS radiation has an average power of 0.28 W with a pulse train energy up to 5 mJ, an individual pulse duration of 19 ns, and a pump pulse repetition rate of 15 Hz. In the case of active Q-switching, the average SRS power is 0.85 W at a pulse energy up to 28 mJ, a pulse duration of 20 ns, and a pump pulse repetition rate of 30 Hz. © 2013 Kvantovaya Elektronika and Turpion Ltd.

Passive Q-switching operation of the flash-lamp pumped 1.34-μm Nd:YAG laser with loop cavity is experimentally investigated. Using a passive 47-% V:YAG Q-switch the laser generated the 380-mJ trains of 260-ns laser pulses with an individual pulse energy of 27 mJ. © 2014 IEEE.

Solid-state blue-laser generation by nonlinear frequency conversion of the 1.338-μm Nd:YAG laser MOPA system is experimentally investigated. The 0.446-μm blue radiation is obtained by frequency-tripling technique as the frequency doubling (0.669 μm) with the sum-frequency oscillation (1.338 μm + 0.669 μm). The blue laser pulse output energy of 2 mJ with 20-ns duration and 2-% conversion efficiency is achieved allowing for laser power scaling. © 2014 IEEE.
