Competitiveness of national economies depends in great part on technological development and implementation of knowledge from science and research in practice. The phenomenon of cooperation represents an integral part of these processes. While its bounded forms, like mergers and acquisitions are relatively embedded in the Czech Republic, the advantages of less formal partnerships have been gradually discovered just recently. In the paper we focus on a special type of cooperation called networks. In order to get an initial overview, we introduce some of the basic definitions, as the specialized literature lacks single explanation and categorization. Within the framework of our research we have focused on such purposeful connections of small and medium enterprises that bring benefits for both sides and lead to the growth of competitiveness. The aim of the article is to investigate the prerequisites of interfirm network operation in the South Moravian Region. The first part of the paper introduces network cooperation, especially the motives standing behind network set-up, the typology of networks and the role of networks at regional level. Then we briefly describe the South Moravian region, where our investigation has been made. We focus especially on the demonstration of the most powerful and perspective economic branches in which we consider networks very important. This base is further extended by the information received in the South Moravian Innovation Centre, an interest association of legal persons having experience especially in research institution - company cooperation. The operation of a partnership network is analyzed on the case of DC Concept, a. s., a company from Brno producing and developing information system for middle and large companies. We introduce the six types of their partners, the system how the network works and the motives lying behind. The paper is based on the information gained during the pre-research which falls within the scope of doctoral dissertation research focusing on network creation of small and medium enterprises in a certain region.

This paper focuses on the study of the role and importance of strategic alliances for small and medium enterprises. The purpose of the paper is to point out the conditions for making these cooperative relationships. This study is based on expert literature, mainly in foreign languages, which offers a relatively detailed breakdown of this topic. The research itself contributes to enhancement of knowledge by summarising the key aspects of strategic co-operation and presentation of the approach of two Czech enterprises by means of a case study. The first case study presents a small business with a development and growth strategy based mainly on strategic co-operation. However, despite positive examples many enterprises do not make any alliances, and their business relations can be described as "traditional". The second case study presents an example of such an enterprise and its approach to co-operation. Thanks to the two different viewpoints it is possible to arrive at a better idea about co-operation and to discover the factors that limit the creation of strategic co-operation. The final part of the work summarises the motifs - both active and passive approach - in making alliances and emphasizing some specifics of alliances. The outputs from the paper may lead to a broader discussion about strategic co-operation and serve as a starting point for further research.

The paper deals with an actual issuef ocused on one of the world wide problem-effective development of an innovation process in the company. Just innovation is deemed as an essential part of company's efficiency and its development with an impact on overall performance and competitiveness. The purpose of this paper is to present and discuss knowledge and findings of original primary research into South-Moravian companies within two projects of Internal Grant Agency Faculty of Business and Management Brno University of Technology, which were conducted in 2009 and 2010. For this analysis a questionnaire survey was used - the results of the primary research reflect innovative activities from the top managers' point of view. The scientific aim of the paper is to gain knowledge and analyse the present status of innovative activities as it pertains to Czech and foreign professional literature and in the Czech business environment. Authors proved with help of questionnaire survey that many companies still neglect information support of their innovation activities although given the importance of innovation as an engine of growth. Moreover, as shown by the primary research, the majority of companies lack a sophisticated marketing information system, modelling and analysis of the future market, analyses of customers, their behaviour and unsaid needs, definition of price strategies, and analysis of new expansion areas. These findings are not affirmative for our business environment.

On existing conditions on global market (almost identical quality, almost identical purchasing values) companies have to definite the total rating of importance of evaluative criteria. In post-crisis period the problem of suppliers' evaluation is one of the biggest, because companies had to use all resources and all possibilities to develop their own business. Many authors wrote about collaborative planning and warehousing as one of possibilities to optimization work inside supply chain. For this paper define small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) as enterprises with the size of maximum 250 employers. In literature was read we couldn't find information about own system of suppliers evaluation for small and medium-sized enterprises. SME can have some different types of business and in this case need the universal system of evaluation. The research of this paper is oriented on small and medium-sized enterprises with different types of business. The new theoretical universal method of calculation for evaluation existing suppliers for small and medium-sized enterprises will present in this paper. This theoretical method is based on average values. This method includes traditional evaluative criteria (quality, delivery time) and other (mobility of supplier, possibilities of new level of partnership). This method of evaluation can not be used for continual manufacture. New method can improve the total evaluation of supplier in small and medium-sized enterprises.

The study is focused on the problematic of spreading multiculturalism at universities in the Czech Republic. The number of immigrants mostly from regions of Eastern Europe coming to work and live in the country keeps growing. From previous research, it is apparent that success in dealing with immigrants at Universities and in the work places is conditioned by the perception of minorities and vice versa. Whereas most of the research is focused on the perception of minority groups, there is a lack of research data regarding the perception of majority groups. The current study is concerned with the perception of a majority group by foreign students from former Soviet Union studying at Czech universities. The methods were chosen to achieve the research objectives. We used free associations, which are best to explore the perception dimensions. A group of foreign students from the former Soviet Union (N = 55) studying at Czech universities were interviewed via the Internet. The research results proved the validity of Susan Fiske's Model of Stereotype Content of inter-group perception based on agency - communion dimensions. Moreover, the findings showed how different cultures and social backgrounds change the patterns of judgment. These data are considered to be highly important for work in diversified groups. Practical applications of the research outcomes and future directions are discussed.

The main goal of this article includes the illustration of selecting bidders evaluation with help Method of complex evaluation of suppliers (MCE). Nowadays the evaluation of suppliers has more importance is in the supply chain management. For SMEs with discontinuous custom manufacturing supplier evaluation at first stage becomes a priority to maintain and enhance the competitiveness of farm output and overall competitiveness. This article presents results of control MCE. The results of this article are results of suppliers' evaluation conditions and eliminations of MCE application on the base of real enterprise data. MCE is oriented to small and medium-sized enterprises with discontinue manufacturing to order. Research is oriented to selecting procedure of existing suppliers at the first stage of supply chain. Nationality and geographic location haven't importance to MCE application. Illustrative case study presents the evaluation process to the specific conditions and subsequently demonstrated viability of MCE.

Objective of the research described in this article is to make an analysis of the usage of marketing communication using both traditional Internet communication channels as well as Social Media Networks by the Czech companies. Primary research was made through on-line questionnaire. Companies across the branches and size categories within the Czech economy were addressed. Companies were selected from the www.firmy.cz portal. Only companies with their own web domain were addressed. The typical respondents were mostly from middle management, especially managers from the marketing or commercial departments. The final number of questionnaire respondents covered in the research is 1009. The main research method was questioning. The questionnaire consisted of three sections with the scale answer questions mainly. Google Refine was used for data processing and MicrosoftExcel for statistical processing and graphic outputs of the research. Evaluated results show significant gaps in usage of Internet communication tools in marketing of Czech companies and also deficiency between clear understanding of the respondents how Social Media should be used in marketing communication and real use in the companies. This deficiency was statistically tested and relation between respondents' perception of the importance of Social Media use for bidirectional communication with stakeholders and non-use of Social Media for bidirectional communication with stakeholders by respondents' company was confirmed.

This article presents selected initial results from the project 'Construction of Methods for Multifactorial Assessment of Company Complex Performance in Selected Sectors' carried out by a research team from the Faculty of Business and Management of Brno University Technology and Faculty of Business and Economics of Mendel University in Brno in 2011. The research focus is on the identification of joint areas of infl uence of social and corporate governance indicators. The authors consider such an approach is essential for the construction of tools for measuring corporate performance in selected sectors of CZ-NACE. It is argued that indicators should meet certain criteria such as relevance, accuracy, representativeness, measurability, usability, transparency, etc. The results presented in this article are from the first phase of the project which forms the basis for further investigation within subsequent phases of the project.
