In the title co-crystal, C2H8NO2·C 4H6O6, the gylcine molecule is present in the zwitterion form. In the tartaric acid molecule there is a short intramolecular O - H⋯O contact. In the crystal, the tartaric acid molecules are linked via pairs of O - H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming inversion dimers. These dimers are linked via a number of O - H⋯O and N - H⋯O hydrogen bonds involving the two components, forming a three-dimensional network.

The polarized parton distribution functions (PDFs) and nuclear structure functions are evaluated by the phenomenological Thermodynamical Bag Model for nuclear media 7Li and 27Al. The Fermi statistical distribution function which includes the spin degree of freedom is used in this statistical model. We predict a sizeable polarized EMC effect. The results of quark spin sum and axial coupling constant of bound nucleons are compared with theoretical predictions of modified Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model by Bentz et al. © 2011 Elsevier B.V.

A straightforward synthesis of -keto amides by coupling primary amines with aryl dibromoethanones under oxidative amidation conditions has been developed. The -keto amides were then subjected to heterocyclodehydration reaction under Bischler-Napieralski conditions followed by aromatization with DBU provided 1-benzoyl isoquinolines in a two-stage process. Utilizing this methodology, isoquinoline alkaloids such as thalmicrinone, papavaraldine, and pulcheotine A were synthesized in excellent yields. © Georg Thieme Verlag Stuttgart · New York.

A concise, highly convergent, and practical synthesis of the clinical-phase anticancer agent batracylin in a two-stage process in excellent yield is described. The B and C rings of this tetracyclic heterocycle are constructed by cascade cyclization of 5-nitro-2-aminobenzyl alcohol with 2-cyanomethyl benzoate in trifluoroacetic acid in good yield in a single-pot reaction. A plausible mechanism for the cascade reaction is also proposed. As part of these studies, a range of batracylin derivatives with different substituents on the C and D rings are synthesized. © Georg Thieme Verlag Stuttgart.

The removal of cadmium from aqueous solution was carried out by electrocoagulation using magnesium as anode and stainless steel as cathode. Various operating parameters on the removal efficiency of cadmium were investigated, such as initial cadmium ion concentration, initial pH, current density and temperature. The optimum removal efficiency of 98.6% was achieved at a current density of 0.2 A dm-2 at a pH of 7.0. The experimental data were tested against different adsorption isotherm models for describing the electrocoagulation process. The adsorption of cadmium preferably fitting the Langmuir adsorption isotherm suggests monolayer coverage of adsorbed molecules. First and second-order rate equations were applied to study adsorption kinetics. The adsorption process follows second order kinetics model with good correlation. Temperature studies showed that adsorption was endothermic and spontaneous in nature. © 2010 Springer Science+Business Media B.V.

Nano-crystalline Gadolinium Titanate (Gd2Ti2O 7) powder was successfully synthesized by "Single Step Molten Salt Technique". LiCl-KCl eutectic mixture was used as a molten medium for the reaction. The duration of the synthesis was 10 h. Stoichiometric proportion of the reactants were mixed in an (LiCl-KCl) eutectic medium and treated at 750 C in an electrical resistance furnace. Single phase Gadolinium Titanate compound was obtained by the thermal process. The synthesized powders were characterized using XRD, FT-IR, UV, EDAX and XPS analyses. The morphology of the powder was examined using SEM and TEM techniques. From the above studies, it has been concluded that pure crystalline Gadolinium Titanate powders can be synthesized via low temperature molten salt process. © 2013 Elsevier Ltd and Techna Group S.r.l.

Hydroxyapatite (HAp) is a biocompatible ceramic that is widely used in a number of biomedical applications and devices. Due to the close similarity between nanometer scale forms of HAp and the mineral phase found in the natural bone matrix, it has gained increased importance in recent years. Pectin is a naturally occurring polysaccharide. The benefits of pectin are appreciated by scientists due to its biodegradability. HAp/PC nano composite could be more useful for treatment of oral bone defects in comparison with conventional of nHAp/Pc and could be more effective as a bone replacement material to promote bone formation. FTIR, XRD, TEM, TG/DTA was used to identify the functional groups, phase structure, morphology and thermal stability of the synthesized composite. The result of these studies indicated that the powders were biocompatible and would not cause toxic reactions. This powder sample could be applied for biomedical application.

The inhibitive action of extract of curry leaves (Murraya koenigii) on carbon steel in 1N HCl has been studied using weight loss, gasometric studies and electrochemical polarization and AC impedance measurements. The effect of temperature on the corrosion behaviour of carbon steel in 1N HCl with optimum concentration of inhibitors was studied in the temperature ranging from 30-80°C. The protective film formed on the surface of carbon steel by the adsorption of extracts in 1N HCl solution was confirmed by SEM studies.

Zinc Oxide and Gallium doped Zinc Oxide films have been deposited by the Spray Pyrolysis method onto preheated glass substrates using Zinc acetate and Gallium (III) acetyl acetonate as precursors for Zn and Ga ions, respectively. The effect of ZnO and Ga doping on the structural, morphological, optical and chemical properties of sprayed ZnO and Gallium doped ZnO thin films were investigated. XRD studies reveal that the films are crystalline with hexagonal (wurtzite) crystal structure. The average transparency in the visible range was around 75% for the thin film deposited using Gallium doping. X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) was utilized to view the changes in the oxidation state of ZnO and Gallium doped ZnO thin films. The ZnO and Gallium doped ZnO thin film has been deposited above the Indium Tin Oxide (ITO) coated glass substrate. The efficiency of the obtained DSSC measured for 0.1 M ZnO thin film by sensitizing for 12 h was, Latin small letter Eng = 2.5%. Similarly for Gallium doped Zinc Oxide, the efficiency Latin small letter Eng is found to be 3.9%, 4.1% and 4.3% for every increase in doping of Gallium concentrations which is utilized for the application of Dye-Sensitized Solar Cell. © 2014 Elsevier Ltd.
