Free radical oxidation ensures regular metabolism in human body. In case of oxidant/antioxidant misbalance free radical oxidation may lead to oxidation of lipids, membrane destruction and irreversible changes in DNA. Many diseases are both causes and consequences of oxidative stress. Its monitoring is essential for selecting and using modern therapy, thus reducing and preventing oxidative stress and irreversible changes in human body. The article describes a new electrochemical method of determining antioxidant/oxidant activity (AOA/OA) of skin. The source of information is the platinum electrode potential shift observed when the investigated part of skin came into contact with a medium containing mediator system. An ECG-type electrode served as a reference one. To prove the reliability of the data obtained with the proposed method, model systems, containing antioxidants or oxidants in different concentrations were investigated. The data obtained showed high self-descriptiveness and reliability of the results. The data demonstrating the impact of cosmetic creams on skin AOA are presented. The interrelation between skin AOA/OA and the presence of cardiovascular pathologies is proved. © 2013 by CEE.

Potentiometric method based on the sharp change of electrode potential for the ferricyanide/ferrocyanide mediator system after addition of the seminal or follicular fluid sample into the measuring electrochemical cell has been developed to enable the easy assessment of the oxidant/antioxidant status of these kind of biological fluids. Platinum screen printed electrode has been used as an indicator. Essential advantage of the proposed method is simultaneous use of the both forms of the ferricyanide/ferrocyanide mediator system (oxidized and reduced ones) that allows estimating oxidant and antioxidant components of the seminal or follicular fluids samples which were obtained, respectively, from 99 male and 27 female subjects. Oxidant activity of seminal fluids has been observed in pathology conditions of reproductive system of male studied subjects and related with possible male infertility symptoms. © Brainina et al.

X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy is used to study Mn 3O 4, Mn 2O 3, and MnO 2 manganese oxide surfaces subjected to mechanical activation by means of high intensity grinding. It is found that Mn 2O 3 is the most thermodynamically stable of these oxides; mechanical activation converts the surface layers of Mn 3O 4 and MnO 2 into this intermediate oxide. The chemical stability of activated Mn 2O 3 with respect to actions of the environment was considerably elevated. This result is explained in terms of features of the structural state of the mechanically activated surface. © 2011 Springer Science+Business Media, Inc.

The problems of the increasing of investment attractiveness of the agricultural sector of the economy are considered. The main channels of withdrawal of funds from the second sphere of agribusiness are described. It is proved that the current pricing mechanism in the agricultural violates folding proportions due to imperfections in the reproduction process of equivalence ratios, which, in turn, is the result of the monopoly of the first and third areas of agriculture relative to agriculture. The main instrument of economic relations - the price mechanism - develops, not under the influence of the classical law of «supply and demand» but under the influence and control of the monopoly structures, on one hand, the resource-producing companies, on the other hand, wholesale and retail units of AIC. Taking this into consideration, the authors formulated particular areas of scientific and practical recommendations to address the constraints to the process of attracting investment into the Russian agricultural sector.
