Dectecting SF6 decomposition products when an SF6 electrical equipment breaks down is an effective means of equipment fault diagnosis. SF6 and its decomposition products can not be effectively separated by current ion mobility spectrometry (IMS) technology in the SF6 gas quality detection. In order to solve the problem and improve the efficiency of separation, we discussed needle - ring and needle - net structure pulsed corona discharge source. By optimizing the structure of the discharge electron source and the migration zone, reducing interference signal, adding filter circuits, we explored and optimized the discharge voltage, electric field intensity, migration ring inner diameter, and other parameters, and designed an IMS system with high electron yield and high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). The results show that the designed needle - ring pulsed corona discharge electron source can provide a μA level and high SNR electronic signal, with valid electronic volume of a single pulse being up to 109~1010.
