The article presents basic factors of perception of assistance and social integration institutions in the media perspective. Compared were surveys carried among the public opinion and workers of assistance institutions about knowledge and social opinions on their functioning, including the media image of this profession. Stereotypically, the image of public assistance institutions is negative and very simplified. The comparison of research results shows that opinions of social workers about their social perception are far more pessimistic than it is in reality; the surveyed people evaluated their image more unfavourably than the respondents who were not employed in institutions. Nevertheless, the mentioned reports and observations clearly indicate the insufficient recognition of the role of social workers and the unfavourable image of social work, especially in the nation-wide media, pointing out to the relatively better cooperation of institutions with regional and local media. © 2015, Ecozone, OAIMDD. Introduction Myelomeningocele (MMC) is congenital nervous system malformation caused by neurulation process failure during pregnancy. The prevalence varies by the continent, region, race, ethnicity and the time when assessed and patients present abnormalities of different organs. One of the most severe complications is renal failure. Aim Clinical evaluation of patients with MMC in North-East Poland and answering the question whether our treatment methods lead to renal function preservation. Material and methods Medical records of 112 patients in the period 1995-2013 were evaluated retrospectively. The data included: age, sex, BMI Z-score WHO, place of residence, perinatal history, social situation, physical activity, urodynamic diagnosis, renal function, hydrocephalus diagnosis, and functioning of shunting procedures. Results They were no statistically significant differences in most studied parameters between boys and girls. We observed statistically significant differences among MMC patients divided into 4 groups according to the physical activity. They differed in birth weight and length, Apgar scale, hydrocephalus diagnosed and the need for ventriculoperitoneal shunt. We did not find differences in urodynamic diagnosis among 4 studied groups. Conclusions Data of MMC children from Poland are similar to the other countries. In our opinion, early diagnostic and treatment procedure especially with early catheterization of MMC children prevent renal failure development.Assessment of very early markers in renal function deterioration in neurogenic bladder patients from widespread multicenters' research is indicated. © 2015 Polish Pediatric Society. The aim of the study was the analysis of key motives for adoption in the context of life experiences of childless couples. This article covers the selected aspects of the qualitative analysis of the biographical narrations obtained during the narration interviews conducted with Polish and French adoptive parents. The study was conducted using the biographical method. The choice of adoptive parenthood depends on achieving inner readiness to undertake an existential challenge. In general, this challenge involves acceptance of oneself and one's spouse in the context of infertility as well as a new dimension of parenthood. The interpretative and cognitive character of biographical narration gains a particular meaning in the case of significant events and experiences identified by the states of loss and pain, as well as of opening to another human being and presenting them with love. This includes the experience of infertility and adoption of a child. It is then, when a man facing the key choice between the alternative and often excluding one another, "projects" describing himself in the future must opt for one of them. This choice is impossible to make without constructing a complex biographical narration that facilitates intellectual work through the difficult experiences and re-construction of oneself. In the diversity and unpredictability of the individual biographical narrations, which are the "projects" of personal autocreation of childless spouses who are oriented to achieve the readiness to adopt a child, a particularly inspiring cognitive value may be found.
