The shrub Senna birostris var. arequipensis (Fabaceae) is recorded as the first host plant for the little known butterfly Teriocolias zelia andina Forbes (Lepidoptera: Pieridae) in the occidental slopes of the Andes, northernmost Chile. Eccopsis Zeller, 1852 is reported for the first time from Chile. Eccopsis razowskii Vargas, n. sp. is described and illustrated based on specimens reared from larvae collected on native Acacia macracantha Willd. (Fabaceae) in the coastal valleys of the northern Chilean desert. Eccopsis galapagana Razowski & Landry, 2008, previously known only from the Galapagos Islands, Ecuador, is recorded for the first time from continental South America. Larvae of the latter were collected in northern Chile feeding on Prosopis alba Griseb (Fabaceae). Source

This paper addresses the problem of finding an asymptotic solution for firstand second-order integro-differential equations containing an arbitrary kernel, by evaluating the corresponding inverse Laplace and Fourier transforms. The aim of the paper is to go beyond the Tauberian theorem in the case of integraldifferential equations which are widely used by the scientific community. The results are applied to the convolute form of the Lindblad equation setting generic conditions on the kernel in such a way as to generate a positive definite density matrix, and show that the structure of the eigenvalues of the correspondent Liouvillian operator plays a crucial role in determining the positivity of the density matrix. © 2010 IOP Publishing Ltd. Protein phosphatase 4 (PP4) is a protein phosphatase 2A (PP2A)-related, okadaic acid-sensitive, serine/threonine protein phosphatase that shares 65% amino acid identity with PP2A. Numerous studies have shown that protein phosphatase is involved in the regulation of T cell signaling and activation. In this study, we investigated the effect of overexpression of PP4 on the expression of members of the MAP kinase family in Jurkat leukemia T cells, which had previously been stimulated with UV, 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate (TPA), ionomycin and okadaic acid. We found that the overexpression of PP4 expressed relatively low activity in the absence of any kind of stimulation. However, TPA, UV or ionomycin treatment strongly increased the activity of PP4. In addition, Jurkat T cells, transfected with various expression plasmids and/or stimulated with TPA, UV or ionomycin strongly induced the c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) and p38, whereas the extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK)-1/2 kinase pathway was weekly activated. Treatment of Jurkat T cells with okadaic acid, an inhibitor of PP2, also inhibited the increase of JNK and p38 activity induced by PP4. The effect of okadaic acid on the activity of PP4 was similar to that observed in Jurkat T cells treated with a dominant negative c-Jun (dn-jun). These results indicate that the activation of JNK and p38, but not ERKs, is a target for the PP4 activity in Jurkat leukemia T cells. Source

First host plant records for Iridopsis hausmanni Vargas (Lepidoptera, Geometridae) in the coastal valleys of northern Chile. The trees Haplorhus peruviana Engl. and Schinus molle L. (Anacardiaceae) are mentioned as the first host plant records for the little known native moth Iridopsis hausmanni Vargas, 2007 (Lepidoptera, Geometridae, Ennominae) in the coastal valleys of the northern Chilean Atacama Desert. This is also the first record of Anacardiaceae as host plant for a Neotropical species of Iridopsis Warren, 1894. Source
