An efficient implementation of the operator split procedure for boundary value solution with plastic flow computation is presented for a general form of associated plasticity model. We start with the general form of phenomenological model of plasticity where the yield criterion is not restricted to a simple (quadratic) form, and the elasticity tensor does not have constant entries. We then turn to the multi-scale model of plasticity which employs the fine scale representation of the plastic deformation along with the homogenization procedure for stress computation. We also visit the plasticity model with rate sensitive plastic response where plastic flow computation is carried out at fine scale in time. We proved herein the sufficient and necessary conditions for the proposed operator split procedure to converge, for any such general form of associated plasticity. Moreover, we presented a systematic manner for constructing the main ingredients for the plastic flow computation and the global Newton's iteration, such as the consistent elastoplastic tangent. © 2009 Elsevier B.V. Key biological functions involved in cell survival have been studied to understand the difference between the impact of exposure to TiO2 nanoparticles (TiO2-NPs) and their bulk counterparts (bulk-TiO2). By selecting a unicellular eukaryotic model organism and applying proteomic analysis an overview of the possible impact of exposure could be obtained. In this study, we investigated the early response of unicellular eukaryotic protozoan Tetrahymena thermophila exposed to TiO2-NPs or bulk-TiO2 particles at subtoxic concentrations for this organism. The proteomic analysis based on 2DE + nLC-ESI-MS/MS revealed 930 distinct protein spots, among which 77 were differentially expressed and 18 were unambiguously identified. We identified alterations in metabolic pathways, including lipid and fatty acid metabolism, purine metabolism and energetic metabolism, as well as salt stress and protein degradation. This proteomic study is consistent with our previous findings, where the early response of T. thermophila to subtoxic concentrations of TiO2 particles included alterations in lipid and fatty acid metabolism and ion regulation. The response to the lowest TiO2-NPs concentration differed significantly from the response to higher TiO2-NPs concentration and both bulk-TiO2 concentrations. Alterations on the physiological landscape were significant after exposure to both nano- and bulk-TiO2; however, no toxic effects were evidenced even at very high exposure concentrations. This study confirms the relevance of the alteration of the lipid profile and lipid metabolism in understanding the early impact of TiO2-NPs in eukaryotic cells, for example, phagocytosing cells like macrophages and ciliated cells in the respiratory epithelium. © 2015 Taylor & Francis. Human values are individual characteristics that vary in importance and serve as guiding principles in a person's life. The purpose of this paper is to identify the values held today by Slovenian managers and students and contributes to the few studies that have examined the influence of age on values. The exploratory study comprises 130 managers and 118 students majoring in management. The managers highly value health, family happiness, honesty, freedom and wisdom, whereas the students perceive as the most important good friends, knowing oneself, health, freedom, loyalty and family happiness. The paper's purpose is to add to the body of knowledge on strategy implementation by systematically studying the activities for and obstacles to strategy execution on a sample of 172 Slovenian companies. The results show that managers mostly rely on planning and organising activities when implementing strategies, while the biggest obstacle to strategy execution is poor leadership. Moreover, the results of multiple regression analysis reveal that greater obstacles to strategy execution in the forms of inadequate leadership skills and employees' reluctance to share their knowledge have a negative influence on performance, while adapting the organisational structure to the selected strategy as an activity for strategy implementation has a positive influence on performance. Multidrug-resistant and New Delhi metallo-β-lactamase 1 (NDM-1) -producing Acinetobacter baumannii are increasingly reported. A collection of five NDM-1-positive A. baumannii isolates recovered in four European countries were analysed. Genotyping was performed by pulsed-field gel electrophoresis, multiplex PCR sequence typing, Diversilab and multilocus sequence typing. Three distinct sequence types were identified. All isolates harboured a chromosomally located blaNDM-1 gene within a Tn125-like transposon. One isolate co-expressed another unrelated carbapenemase OXA-23. This report constitutes the first epidemiological study of NDM-1-producing A. baumannii from four countries. © 2012 European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases. Source
