The target article diagnoses a dominance of liberal viewpoints with little evidence, promotes a conservative viewpoint without defining it, and wrongly projects the U.S. liberal-conservative spectrum to the whole field of social psychology. Instead, we propose to anticipate and reduce mixing of theorizing and ideology by using definitions that acknowledge divergence in perspective, and promote representative sampling and observation of the field, as well as dialogical publication.

This paper discusses opportunities and feasibility of integrating neurophysiologic analysis methods, based on electroencephalography (EEG), in the current landscape of usability evaluation methods. The rapid evolution and growing availability of low-cost, easier to use devices and the accumulated knowledge in feature extraction and processing algorithms allow us to foresee the practicality of this integration. The work presented in this paper is focused on reading and readability, identified as a key element of usability heuristics, and observable in the neurophysiologic signals' space. The experiments are primarily designed to address the discrimination of the reading activity (silent, attentive and continuous) and the verification of decreasing readability, associated with the user's mental workload analysis. The results obtained in the series of experiments demonstrate the validity of the approach for each individual user, and raise the problem of inter-subject variability and the need for designing appropriate calibration procedures for different users. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

Mobility management is a key aspect to consider in future Internet architectures, as these architectures include a highly nomadic end-user which often relies on services provided by multi-access networks. In contrast, today's mobility management solutions were designed having in mind simpler scenarios and requirements from the network and where roaming could often be taken care of with previously established agreements. With a more dynamic behavior in the network, and also with a more prominent role from the end-user, mobility management has to deal with additional requirements derived from new Internet paradigms. To assist in understanding such requirements and also how to deal with them, this paper proposes a starting point to dismantle current mobility management notions. Our contribution is an initial proposal on defining mobility management in concrete functional blocks, their interaction, as well as a potential grouping which later can assist in deriving novel and more flexible mobility management architectures. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2011.

There is a new trend to consider Distributed Mobility Management (DMM) for flat network architectures to cope with the increased distributed nature of the mobile networks. DMM improves the routing optimization and reduces the scalability issues when compared with the centralized mobility management, through the traffic anchoring distribution at the Access Routers (ARs). However, the handover optimization, which also demands for fast and soft handovers to reduce/eliminate the handover latency and the respective packet loss, is not properly addressed in the DMM. Although current seamless handover approaches, already integrated in centralized mobility schemes, could also be adapted to the DMM schemes, they introduce new entities/functionalities, messages and buffering/bicasting mechanisms to reduce the handover latency or the packet loss. In this paper, the seamless IP handover is addressed from a novel make-without-break perspective, which is able to maintain two logical connections in the same physical interface with two Access Points (APs) from distinct IP networks. The outcome of the evaluation shows that make-without-break with a DMM scheme is able to reduce or even eliminate the handover latency and the packet loss from link disconnection, providing seamless IP session continuity in mobile environments. © 2013 IEEE.
