A study was carried out in the northwestern part of the Medjerda basin for the sake of improving the knowledge about its water quality as well as the relationships that may exist between the physico-chemical and bacteriological parameters. Added to that, it is meant to figure out the water quality indices of the meiofauna's diversity/density. The analysis of the 20 abiotic parameters reveals a degradation of the water quality in the Medjerda main stream and three of its northern tributaries (increased salinity, nitrate load, organic mattera, coliforms, etc.). The meiofauna data follows the regressive evolution of physico-chemical parameters and provides further knowledge about the type and quality of the sediment. © 2015 IAHS.
