This study was carried out to evaluate the effect of low calorie cocoa butter substitutes, the structured lipids (SLs) on rats' body weight and plasma lipid levels. The SLs were developed from a ternary blending of palm mid fraction (PMF), virgin coconut oil (VCO) and canola oil (CO). The optimized blends were then underwent enzymatic acidolysisusing sn-1,3-specific lipase. This process produced A12, a SL which hasa solid fat content almost comparable to cocoa butter but has low calories. Therefore, it has a high potential to be used for cocoa butter substitute with great nutritional values. Fourty two Sprague Dawley rats were divided into 6 groups and were force feed for a period of 2 months (56 days) and the group were Control 1(rodent chow), Control 2(cocoa butter), Control 3(PMF:VCO:CO 90:5:5 - S3 blend), High doseSL (A12:C8+S3), Medium dose SL (A12:C8+S3) and Low dose SL (A12:C8+S3). The body weight of each rat was recorded once daily. The plasma profile of treated and control rats, which comprised of total cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, LDL cholesterol and triglyceride was measured on day 0 (baseline) and day 56 (post-treatment). Low calorie structured lipid (SL) was synthesized through acidolysis reaction using sn 1-3-specific lipase of ThermomycesLanuginos (TLIM) among 25 samples with optimum parameter obtained from the RSM. Blood samples for plasma separation were collected using cardiac puncture and requiring anesthesia via tail vein(Anesthetics for rats: Ketamine/Xylazine) for day 0 and day 56. Results of the study showed that rats in group 1 and group 2 has gained weight by 1.66 g and 4.75 g respectively and showed significant difference (p<0.05). In contrast, G3, G4, G5 and G6 showed significant difference (p<0.05) with weight loss by 2.16 g, 10.71g, 7.27 g and 3.23 g respectively 7.27 g and 3.23 g respectively after the treatment. Biochemical analyses on the ratsplasma lipid revealed that the total blood cholesterol content of rats fed with either low dosage (1.39 ± 0.08 mmol/L), medium dosage (1.40 ± 0.08 mmol/L) or high dosage (1.42 ± 0.07 mmol/L) of SLs contains C8:0 for 56 days was significantly lower (p<0.05) than day 0. However, total cholesterol for G1 and G2 was also significantly different (p<0.05) when compared after the treatment. There were no significant differences (p>0.05) between G3 on day 0 and 56 days for total cholesterol. Meanwhile, total plasma HDLcholesterol content of rats fed with C8:0 was significantly higher (p<0.05) than the baseline (day 0) and the total plasma LDL cholesterol levels of rats in G4, G5 and G6 were significantly lower (p<0.05) than the baseline (day 0). In conclusion, combination of medium-chain fatty acid (C8:0) which produced low calorie structured lipids effectively altered the plasma cholesterol levels of experimental rats. © 2016 Author(s).

In this paper, a new effective medium ratio following miniaturized meta-atom structure designed, fabricated and measured for dual-band that has multiple circular concentric metal rings printed one inside the other. The each ring of meta-atom structure delivers a magnetic resonance at different frequencies. The number of concentric ring resonator has created same number of resonances. A different analysis has been performed to verify distinct resonance frequencies, effective medium ratio and electromagnetic transmission properties simply by altering the design parameters. Computer simulation technology (CST) electromagnetic simulator which is commercially available is utilized to investigate the design of the meta-atom. The dual-band response has been displayed of the meta-atom in conjunction with negative index material property over the certain span in the microwave regime. The proposed structure has become suitable for S- and C-band applications and has achieved efficient electrically small microwave structure. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new monopole microstrip patch antenna design for ultra-wideband applications are proposed in this paper. The proposed antenna is comprised of a ring-shaped with additional slot and upper cutting edge, a 50-ohm microstrip line-fed and a slotted limited ground plane. The proposed antenna size is 3.5 cm × 2.4 cm × 0.16 cm and is energized by microstrip feed line. The finite-difference time-domain method based Computer Simulation Technology (CST) and finite element method based High Frequency Structural Simulator (HFSS) is adopted in this investigation. The proposed antenna has been achieved excellent gain and the calculated bandwidth of the monopole antenna cover whole UWB frequency range. However, the measured results demonstrate that stable omnidirectional radiation pattern within the entire frequency band. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Genomic DNA of Escherichia coli were characterized by enterobacterial repetitive intergenic consensus-Polymerase chain reaction (ERIC-PCR) and the presence of Shiga toxin gene-I (Stx1) and Shiga toxin gene-2 (Stx2). These isolates were originated from imported raw beef which are come from two countries namely Australia and India. The isolation of E. coli was conducted by using Eosin Methylene Blue Agar (EMBA). A total of 94 strains had been isolated from 30 samples of imported raw beefand 42 strains had been detected positively E. coli by doing biochemical tests. All strains had been tested and the results of biochemical tests showed that 3 strains were from Australia samples while the other 39 strains were from India samples. The biochemical tests used are Indole test, Methyl Red test, Voges-Proskauer test and Citrate test. All the 42 strains were examined for Shiga toxin (stx1 and stx2) gene detection by two pair primers which are stx2F (5'-TTCTTCGGTATCCTATTCCC-3'), stx2R (5'-ATGCATCTCTGGTCATTGTA-3'), stx1F (5'-CAGTTAATGTGGTGGCGAAG-3'), and stx1R (5'-CTGTCACAGTAACAACCGT-3'). The results showed that none of the strains are positive for Shiga toxin gene. Application of ERIC-PCR method towards E. coli had successfully shown the high diversity polymorphism in 21 different genome types of DNA with primers ERIC1R (5'-CACTTAGGGGTCCTCGAATGTA- 3') and ERIC2R (5'- AAGTAAGTGACTGGGGTGACGC- 3'). © 2014 AIP Publishing LLC.

This study investigated the efficiency of electrochemical oxidation in removing chemical oxygen demand (COD) from leachate. The paper studies the factors affecting the efficiency of removing COD of leachate, such as applied voltage, electrolysis time and Clconcentration. Charcoal composite electrode was used as anode, the results show that the electrochemical oxidation can be applied to leachate treatment. The operating conditions were applied voltage of 15 V, the raw pH, Cl- concentration of 1.5% (w/v), operating time of 90 min. with charcoal-poly vinyl chloride (C-PVC) electrode, the highest COD removal efficiencies was 82%. © 2015, Sphinx Knowledge House. In this research, new composite electrodes of platinum (Pt), silver (Ag), aluminium (Al), cobalt (Co), copper (Cu), nickel (Ni) and iron (Fe) with PVC were prepared. The ready composite electrodes were then used as a working electrode to treat a leachate samples using electrochemical method with stainless steel as the counter electrode. Electrochemical oxidation processes, is one of the environmental friendly technologies in landfill leachate treatment processes. The results showed a composition of Co85-PVC15was the best electrode whichgave the removal percentage of color, COD and NH3-N are 82, 80 and 76% respectively. © 2015, Sphinx Knowledge House. The complexation of nickel acetate with tetraaza involves deprotonation of protonated amine nitrogen to form neutral ligand coordinated to the nickel via the four nitrogen atom. The dication complex is paired with thiocyanate anions. The complex was characterized by elemental analysis, UV-VIS and FTIR spectroscopic method. The crystal structure of nickel complex characterized by X-Ray crystallography and adopts square planar geometry. © 2014 AIP Publishing LLC.

In this paper, the fabrication of open cellular titanium foams by using an innovative spacer through powder metallurgy was investigated. Current space holders used to fabricate titanium foam have brought attention to issues such as solubility, removal time, expensiveness and lack of environmental friendliness. Starch, as a new spacer, has been utilized in this research to overcome these issues. Starch is an environmentally friendly organic polymer that can be burnt off easily by heating. Starch is chemically stable and is not soluble in titanium. Titanium foams were fabricated in this study using starch. The mechanical properties and pore structures were investigated by SEM. The porosities of the fabricated titanium foams were 64-79%, and the sizes of open cellular pores were 100-300 μm. The observed yield strength of the foams was in the range of 23-41 MPa, and the Young's moduli were 1.6-3.7 GPa. Finally, the XRD results of titanium before and after sintering were studied to ensure that the foams produced featured no contamination. © 2011 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Cucumber is a family of Cucurbitaceae which is one of the favourite vegetables consumed in Malaysia. A study was conducted to maximize cucumber production and minimize the total cost of fertilizer used to plant cucumber by using the goal programming approach. Five different fertilizers having different combination of Nitrogen (N), Phosphorus (P) and Potassium (K) were analysed.The result indicated that the fertilizer that would optimize nutrients and minimize the total cost of cucumber production are NPK Biasa and NPK Green consisting of 80 kg/ha of Nitrogen, 75 kg/ha of Phosphorus and 60 kg/ha of Potassium.
