This research is reporting on the effect of calcium pyrophosphate (Ca 2P2O7, CPP) addition on β-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP). Mixing process of β-TCP and CPP were done through wet mixing within the range of 0.1 and 10 wt% CPP. Sample in the form of pellet is produced and sintered at the temperature of 950 - 1100 °C. The results obtained show that the addition of CPP does not given significant effect on fired shrinkage, porosity as well as the density of sintered β-TCP body. However, the addition of CPP has increased the hardness value of sintered β-TCP body due to the fact that CPP particles were acted as binder between the β-TCP and CPP particles. Through the in vitro test, the addition of CPP was effectively increase the bioactive properties of β-TCP. It can been seen by formation of hydroxyapatite phase after soaking for 7 days in simulated body fluid (SBF).
