The MCR-ALS method was applied to increase the structural information derived from infrared spectra of pure and doped dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine (DPPC) liposomes. Pure DPPC vesicles and mixed ones with long-chain homologues of the phenol substituted by a tert-butyl moiety were investigated using the attenuated total reflectance Fourier-transfer infrared spectroscopy (FTIR-ATR). A combination of pure spectral profiles with pure concentration ones, which were derived from MCR-ALS calculations, enabled us to discuss in detail the structural characteristics of each pure phase state, which occur during a heating of pure as well as mixed lipid systems. Additionally, alterations of relative concentrations of subsequent components, which were represented by different pure phase states, associated with individual phase transitions, were determined in both pure and mixed DPPC systems. As far as we known, it is the first application of the MCR-ALS calculation in analysis of FTIR-ATR spectra of DPPC membranes. © The Royal Society of Chemistry 2015.

Based on the perennial monitoring (1995-2010) of hyperhaline water reservoirs in the south of Western Siberia with salinity from 28 to 417 g/L, four seasons in the development of biocoenoses are distinguished and integrated results of studies of the effect of environmental factors on the species composition and productivity of biocoenoses are presented. The decisive role of temperature on the seasonal cycles of hydrocole development and salinity on the productivity and composition of biocoenoses are revealed. The highest species diversity is observed in summer at temperatures above 12°C; the fauna is represented only by artemia cysts at negative temperatures. With an increase of salinity from 28 to 100 g/L the number of species declines. For salinity 100 g/L the fauna is represented only by brine shrimp Artemia. Hyperhaline biocoenoses are the most productive at salinity 150-180 g/L. © 2013 Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.

A morphometric analysis of crustaceans from the genus Artemia inhabiting nine Ural and Siberian populations has been carried out. An effect of the total mineralization of water reservoirs and some ions on the characteristics of Artemia growth has been discovered. The number of setae on furca and its length are most affected by the factors under consideration. A trend toward a decrease in the manifestation of fluctuating asymmetry alongside an increase in the total mineralization of water reservoirs has been found. © 2013 Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.

Morphometric analysis of 24 populations of Artemia brine shrimps from lakes of Western Siberia and the Urals was performed during the growing season of 2010. Differentiation among these populations was revealed, with the level of total water mineralization being the main differentiating factor. Fluctuating asymmetry in the number of setae on the right and left branches of the furca was observed in the brine shrimps. Its level showed a tendency to decrease with an increase in total water mineralization in the lakes. © 2012 Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.
