A method of synthesis of alkali-borate glass activated with carbon microparticles is proposed. The behavior of thermal emission of carbon microparticles in the glass under excitation by a Q-switched neodymium laser is investigated. With the increase of laser irradiation dose, the fading of laser-induced emission observed in experiment is interpreted to be due to the carbon particle size reduction caused by the laser irradiation. © 2011. The local electromagneto-optical effect (EMOE) from different sites of separate magnetic domains in the epitaxial films of yttrium iron garnet is investigated. These investigations show that value of the local EMOE is not stable in the course of optical scanning of different sites of magnetic domain. Separate points of the films are found out where changes of the EMO signal in the form of separate narrow peaks are clearly registered. In our opinion, those local points are the defect areas in the sample and the EMOE method allows us to reveal defects in the films and to determine their arrangement. © 2011. Source

Sensitivity of domain walls of epitaxial films of ferrite garnets to applying of external constant and variable electric fields under two different experimental conditions was investigated with use of optical polarimetry method. It is shown that "activity" of domain walls increases in the vicinity of areas with non-uniform induced magnetic anisotropy caused by external spatially non-uniform electric field. © 2015 - STC "Institute for Single Crystals". The thermal influence on magnetoelectric characteristics of the epitaxial yttrium iron garnet films has been studied. Changes in field dependences of electromagneto-optical effect after thermal annealing of films have been revealed. It is shown that the relaxation of non-uniform mechanical stresses in the sample under study and the relaxation of substrate-induced strains in the film may cause the specified changes. © 2010 - STC Institute for Single Crystals.
