The catalytic decomposition of KClO3 is studied in the presence of MnO2, activated carbons and sodium sulphide. This investigation describes the use of thermogravimetry as a convenient technique to investigate catalytic activity of a simple chemical reaction. It is observed that the MnO2 catalyst decreases the decomposition temperature from 480 to 350 °C while the activated carbons cause its decomposition at 320-325 °C. At the same time the carbons undergo facile gasification. Presence of Na2S was the most effective as it induced the carbon-catalysed decomposition of KClO3 at a temperature as low as 220 °C, a temperature at which the carbons were stable and no gasification was observed. © 2014 Akadémiai Kiadó, Budapest, Hungary. Ni 0.6Zn 0.4Fe 2O 4 nano-particles have been synthesized by self-propagating auto-combustion of nickel zinc ferrous fumarato-hydrazinate complex. The precursor complex has been characterized by chemical analysis, IR, AAS, thermal analysis and isothermal mass loss studies. The precursor on ignition undergoes self-propagating auto combustion to give Ni 0.6Zn 0.4Fe 2O 4. The X-ray diffraction studies confirmed the single phase formation of nano-size 'as synthesized' Ni 0.6Zn 0.4Fe 2O 4. TEM observation showed the average particle size to be 20 nm. Infrared and magnetization studies were also carried out on the 'as synthesized' Ni 0.6Zn 0.4Fe 2O 4. The lower value of saturation magnetization and higher Curie temperature of 'as synthesized' ferrite also hint at the nano size nature. © 2011 Akadémiai Kiadó, Budapest, Hungary. Source

Mixed crystals of 0.1 and 0.25 zinc magnesium ammonium sulphate were grown by slow evaporation of aqueous solution at room temperature. The bright and transparent crystals obtained were characterized by thermal (TG-DTA), FTIR and XRD analyses. A fitting decomposition pattern for the compound was formulated on the TG curve which shows two stage mass losses between 133 and 478.75 C. In this temperature range, DTA curve shows exothermic peaks supporting the formulated decomposition pattern. The FTIR spectra show the vibration frequencies due to the formation of zinc magnesium ammonium sulphate mixed crystals. Detailed structural analysis of the compound is under progress. © 2013 Akadémiai Kiadó, Budapest, Hungary. Source

Objective evaluation techniques were used in this study of thermo-physiological and performance analyses of knitted fabrics. The KES-FB auto system and the FAST system measure the passages of air and water which were used for evaluation of the physiological properties. Fibrous materials were prepared in the form of integrated knitted fabric which on the back sides had different profiled polyester fibers and on the face sides had the combination of polyester and cotton fibers. Polyester fibers had three different profiles which were studied in dependence of the heat and moisture transfer of knitted fabrics. © 2013 Akadémiai Kiadó, Budapest, Hungary. Source

In this paper we studied the influence of knitted structures on heat transfer. The structure of the knitted fabric was expressed by geometric properties such as thickness, surface mass and bulked mass, and knitted structure. Heat transfer was experimentally measured on three types of devices. It was found that the measured structural properties do not have a significant effect on heat transfer of knitted fabrics. From three types of devices, the selected device was Alambeta as the most objective method for measuring thermal parameters. It was determined to be the most suitable of knitted structure which provided the best thermal insulation properties. © 2013 Akadémiai Kiadó, Budapest, Hungary. Source
