Thermal enhanced soil vapor extraction (SVE) has been effectively used for removal of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from unsaturated soil. To explore the effectiveness of radio frequency heating enhanced SVE, a field demonstration of SVE remediation was carried out in Tianjin, and the impact of anode connection was studied. The results showed that excellent heating effect was achieved with paralleled anode, the temperature improved by 40℃ after 10 days. The temperature of the contaminated sites and the concentration of TVOCs decreased with the increase of SVE time. Two months after remedy, the 90% TVOCs were removed in middle-shallow soil and 64% were removed in depth. ©, 2015, Science Press. All right reserved.

Experiments were conducted to study the stabilizing effects of the new organic heavy metal stabilizer ES and common stabilizers CaO, NaS, FeSO4, Na2HPO4, chitosan on the single-metal-contaminated(Cu, As, Cd, Hg) simulated sediment. Results show that CaO had the definitive stabilizing effect on Hg, As, Cd, Cu in the sediment, but it should be used in large usage and the cost was high; NaS also had a certain effect on the simulated sediment and the stabilizing effect on Hg, Cu was better than As, Cd; Na2HPO4 had no obvious effect on Hg and As; FeSO4 had good stabilizing effect on As, but had no stabilizing effect on the other kinds of heavy metals; chitosan had obvious adverse impact on As. According to the simulated sediment experiments results, we studied the engineering application on undisturbed multi-metals-contaminated sediment with ES. The stabilization mechanism of ES was also investigated. Results show that the optimal stabilization effect was obtained with a pH of 8, a liquid-soil ratio of 1.2:1 and a dosage of 5%. After stabilization by ES, a large proportion of heavy metals were in the residue form which indicated that the stabilizing effect of ES was good. ©, 2015, Science Press. All right reserved.
