A copolymer of divinylbenzene and N-vinyl pyrrolidone (DVB-NVP) was synthesized for the purpose of solid phase extraction (SPE). Its performance as an SPE resin was evaluated using six model compounds having different polarities. Aqueous samples containing those compounds were applied to SPE cartridges containing the aforementioned copolymer as well as the classic C18 and Oasis HLB for comparison, and the SPE processed samples were analyzed by using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) for quantitation. Then, the copolymer DVB-NVP was sulfonated to modify the surface properties. The surface modified materials were used to analyse complex samples. The results showed that DVB-NVP had high recoveries for the six compounds ranging from 95. 55% to 101. 08% which were better than those of the C18 and were comparable to those of Oasis HLB. In applying to real samples, the recoveries for dimethyl phthalate, diethyl phthalate and dibutyl phthalate in liquor were 102.55%, 102.99% and 102. 11%, with the RSDs of 2. 11%, 1.69%, 0.79% respectively. Similarly, the recoveries for clonidine and cyproheptadine in pork were 89. 23% and 91. 42% with the RSDs of 8. 21% and 8. 86%, respectively. Source

The crosslinked dextran hydrogel microsphere is prepared by an inverse suspension polymerization method by using dextran 40 000 as raw material, epichlorohydrin as crosslinking agent and toluene as organic dispersed phase. The sophericity, particle size distribution and water swelling properties of the microspheres are chosen as the evaluation criterion to optimize those experimental factors, including the kind of the organic dispersed phase, stirring speed, experimental temperature, the reaction time and amount of dispersant. Meanwhile, the dextran microsphere is used for the separation of liposomes and drugs. The result indicates that the homemade microsphere has good sophericity, distribution, water swelling property and separating performance. ©, 2014, China National Chemical Information Center. By using agarose as the raw material, agarose spheres are prepared based on the reverse suspension principle. The particle sizes of those spheres range from 45μm to 165 μm. The obtained agarose spheres can be further cross-linked for enhanced mechanical strength, which can be further derivatized with carboxymethyl agents. The effects of reagent amount, the reaction temperature and time are performed to maximize ion exchange capacity. The final carboxymethyl containing agarose spheres are used for the separation and purification of crude alkaline protease and show comparable efficiency with the similar foreign products. Source
