Objective: To investigate the expression changes of G-protein-coupled receptor kinase- interacting protein 1 (GIT1) in lithium-pilocarpine-induced epileptic rat model and explore its role in the genesis and development of epilepsy. Methods: The lithium-pilocarpine-induced model of status epilepticus (SE) was established in 42 specific pathogen free (SPF) male adult Wistar rats, and those rats were randomly divided into control group and 6 epilepsy groups (1, 3, 7, 14, 30, 60 d after SE). The expression of GIT1 mRNA was detected by fluroescent quantitative polymerase chain reaction (PCR), while the expression of GIT1 protein was examined by Western blotting and immunohistochemistry was applied to test the expression of CA1 region, dentate gyrus and parahippocampal cortex in rat hippocampus at different time points. Results: GIT1 mRNA level rised in acute phase on 1st and 3rd day after SE (P = 0.012, 0.002), then increased continously in latency on 7th and 14th day (P = 0.003, 0.001), and reached the peak in chronic phase on 30th and 60th day (P = 0.000, for all). GIT1 protein expression rised in acute phase and increased continously in chronic phase, but there was no significant difference compared with control group (P > 0.05, for all). Then, it reached the peak in chronic phase (P = 0.000, for all). Until the 30th day, the GIT1 expression of CA1 region, dentate gyrus and parahippocampal cortex in the hippocampus of rats in 6 epilepsy groups was significantly higher than that of control group (P = 0.000, for all). Conclusions: The up-regulated expression of GIT1 in the hippocampus of epileptic rat was probably involved in the formation process of chronic epilepsy by regulating cytoskeleton dynamic regrouping to influence excitatory neural networks. ©, 2015, Tianjin Huanhu Hospital. Objective: To investigate the expression of CD44v6, integrin αvβ3, EGFR and E-cadherin in human lung cancer A549 and ovarian cancer SK-OV-3 cell lines and their biological significance. Methods: Expression levels of CD44v6, integrin αvβ3, EGFR and E-cadherin in A549 and SK-OV-3 cell lines were detected by flow cytometry. Results: The positive rates of CD44v6, integrin αvβ3, EGFR and E-cadherin in A549 cells were significantly higher than those in SK-OV-3 cells [(93.48±2.97)% vs (82.73±4.28)%, (95.42±2.26)% vs (83.60±1.26)%, (94.30±3.43)% vs (88.52±0.88)% and (94.52±1.59)% vs (86.96±3.07)%, respectively, all P<0.05]. Conclusions: The positive rates of CD44v6, integrin αvβ3, EGFR and E-cadherin in A549 cells are all higher than those in SK-OV-3 cells. The integrated effects of these molecules may be associated with more distant metastases in lung cancer than in ovarian cancer. ©, 2015, Journal of Practical Oncology, Editorial Board. Introduction: Hyperuricemia may be related to the development of endothelial dysfunction and cardiovascular diseases. However, the association between hyperuricemia and erectile dysfunction (ED) is not currently clear. Aim: The goal of this study is to investigate the effect of hyperuricemia on erectile function and possible mechanisms. Methods: Twenty-four 8-week-old male SD rats were randomly divided into 4 groups. Group A (control): Rats received normal saline and served as controls. Group B (hyperuricemia): rats were given oxonic acid 250 mg/kg bw/day through gastric gavage for 4 weeks. Group C (febuxostat): normal rats were treated with 5 mg/kg febuxostat through gastric gavage for 4 weeks. Group D (hyperuricemia + Febuxostat): normal rats were treated with 250 mg/kg bw/day oxonic acid and 5 mg/kg bw/day febuxostat with 1 hour interval for 4 weeks. Measurements: The level of serum uric acid, the maximum intracavernosal pressure (ICPmax), mean arterial pressure (MAP), and the expression of endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS), phospho-eNOS, neuronal NOS, Rho-associated protein kinaise (ROCK)1 and ROCK2 and the level of nitric oxide (NO) and reactive oxygen species (ROS) in cavernous tissue were determined. Results: The level of serum uric acid and ROS in hyperuricemic rats was significantly higher than that in the other 3 groups (P <.05). After electrostimulation with 3 and 5 voltage, the ratio of ICPmax/MAP in hyperuricemic rats was significantly less than that in other 3 groups (P <.05), respectively. eNOS, p-eNOS, and nNOS expression in hyperuricemic rats were significantly decreased compared to the other 3 groups (P <.05), respectively. Conclusion: Erectile function is impaired by hyperuricemia. The decrease of eNOS, p-eNOS, and nNOS protein expression and increase of ROS in cavernous tissue may be one of the key mechanisms of ED caused by hyperuricemia. © 2016 International Society for Sexual Medicine. Hepatic abscesses and hepatic metastasis are common diseases. However, hepatic abscesses seldom occur in patients with hepatic metastases. We describe a case of a 67-year-old female patient with abdominal pain in the right upper quadrant. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed several lesions, with the largest lesion displaying features of both hepatic pyogenic abscess and liver metastasis. These features included iso- or hypointense signaling on T1WI and T2WI, hyperintense signaling on diffusion weighted imaging of the thick wall, and mixed hyperintense signal in the center on DWI, as well as dramatic and irregular peripheral enhancement was detected on LAVA dynamic contrast scanning. Aspiration and culture of the largest lesions revealed Klebsiella pneumoniae and a pathologic diagnosis of adenocarcinoma. At this point, the patient admitted a history of colon adenocarcinoma 9 years ago treated with hemicolectomy. Therefore, this patient was considered to have a hepatic pyogenic abscesses complicated by hepatic metastasis. The patient began treatment for the responsible pathogens and underwent chemoembolization of the liver lesions. In special cases, we could attempt to pursue a more detailed search for coexistence of microorganism infection and tum. © 2015, Professional Medical Publications. All rights reserved. Source

Omental pregnancy is an extremely rare and dangerous form of ectopic pregnancy which can be very difficult to diagnose radiologically. We report the case of an 18-year-old girl with secondary omental pregnancy who was assessed by use of contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT). For the first time, we report the contrast-enhanced CT features of omental pregnancy. Inhomogeneous mild enhancement was observed, which is different from other kinds of ectopic pregnancy, for which enhancement is often substantial. Possible reasons for the discrepancy are discussed, as also is differential diagnosis of omental pregnancy. © 2015, Japan Radiological Society. Source
