The aim of the present study was to assess the wound-healing efficiency of the Prunella vulgaris extract (PVE) on thermally injured rats. Sixty adult, female rats were divided into four groups, with group I serving as a sham control (without a burn injury). A burn was inflicted on the dorsum of all the rats in the second, third and fourth groups. Group II rats served as the burn-injury control group without any treatment. The burn-injured areas of the rats in the third and fourth groups were treated topically by 1% silver sulfadiazine (SSD) cream or 10% PVE-based cream, respectively. Biochemical (antioxidant, lipid peroxidation, hydroxyproline, mucopolysaccharide), morphological and histopathological evaluations showed the burn-healing efficiency of PVE to be better than that of the SSD group. In conclusion, topical application of PVE enhanced collagen synthesis and antioxidant levels by suppressing lipid peroxidation as well as increasing proliferation of keratinocytes, and thus positively influenced wound-healing. Objective: To analyze the correlation between expression of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) and adverse reactions after chemotherapy of advanced non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Methods: A total of 120 NSCLC patients who were treated in our hospital from August 2009 to September 2011 were selected as an observation group, and another 120 healthy subjects were selected as a control group. EGFR expressions in both groups were detected. The observation group was subjected to combination chemotherapy, and their shorter- and long-term prognostic outcomes, adverse reactions and mortality were recorded. Meanwhile, correlation analysis was performed. Results: The observation group had significantly higher percentage and positive rate in EGFR expression than those of the control group (P<0.05). With increasing stage and lymphatic metastasis, the positive expression rate of EGFR rose significantly (P<0.05). In the observation group, the response rate of treatment was 62.5%, and the incidence rate of adverse reactions after chemotherapy was 28.3% (34/120). The 1-, 2- and 3-year survival rates were 38.3%, 15.0% and 10.0% respectively. Multiple Logistic regression analysis showed that TNM stage, lymphatic metastasis and positive EGFR expression were the main independent risk factors for post-chemotherapy adverse reactions (P<0.05). Conclusion: Advanced NSCLC was commonly accompanied by high EGFR expression. Although chemotherapy was able to improve the prognosis and survival rate, adverse reactions were also induced, being associated with the pathological characteristics and EGFR expressions of patients. © 2011-12, All Rights Reserved. e Journal System. Background: With more than 50,000 orthopaedic surgeons, China is having an increasing impact on fracture surgery research. However, the most influential Chinese articles on fracture surgery have not been determined. This study aimed to characterise the most-cited articles on fracture surgery by Chinese authors to provide insight into the fracture research in China. Methods: The Web of Science was used to search for citations of fracture surgery articles that originated in China. The 50 most-cited articles were identified. The title, number of citations, year of publication, journal, article type, level of evidence, city, institution, and authors were recorded and evaluated. Results: The 50 top-cited papers were published between 1984 and 2012. The most prolific decade began in the year 2000. These articles received 28 to 209 citations (mean 52), were written in English, and published in 12 journals. Injury was the most popular journal, with the largest number of articles (11) on the top 50 list. The region with the largest number of published articles was Hong Kong (20), followed by Kaohsiung (8), Shanghai (8), and Taipei (7). Most were clinical studies (39), while the remaining studies were basic science articles (11). The hip was the most common topic in the clinical studies. The most popular level of evidence was IV. Conclusions: This list of the top 50 publications identifies the most influential Chinese fracture surgery articles for the global community. This study presents insight into the historical contributions of Chinese researchers and the fracture surgery trends in China. © 2016 The Author(s). Source

Objective: To explore the homodynamic characteristics of superior mesenteric artery (SMA) in the aged with or without cerebrovascular stenosis, and to observe the substantial relationship between them. Methods: Hemodynamics of SMA of 45 aged patients with impaired cerebral blood supply (study group) and 45 aged people with normal cerebral blood supply (control group) confirmed by DSA were monitored with color Doppler ultrasound. Relation between hemodynamics of SMA and severity of cerebral arteriosclerosis were analyzed, and hemodynamic characteristics of SMA between the two groups were compared. Results: Compared to control group, blood flow volume and the diameter of the vessel of SMA were significant smaller in study group, and the maximum flow velocity, mean flow velocity were significant larger (all P<0.001). Resistance index had no significant difference between the two groups (P≤0.05). Conclusion: The cerebrovascular atherosclerosis are dramatically associated with superior mesenteric arterial lesions in aged patients. The severer of the cerebrovascular stenosis, the heavier of the SMA's homodynamic changes. Substantial ischemia of intestine should been concerned for patients with impaired cerebral blood supply. Background: Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) or cancers of oral cavity is one of the most common cancers worldwide with high rate of mortality and morbidity. At present, chemotherapy is one of the most effective treatments; however it often fails to meet the requirements in the clinical therapy. In the present study, we have successfully formulated ligand-decorated cancer-targeted CDDP-loaded PLGA-PEG/NR7 nanoparticles and demonstrated the feasibility of using NR7 peptide for targeted delivery, rapid intracellular uptake, and enhanced cytotoxic effect in receptor-overexpressed OSCC cancer cells. Results: Nanosized particles were formed and sustained release patterns were observed for PLGA/NR7 nanoparticles. Significantly higher cellular uptake was observed in HN6 OSCC cancer cells and superior anticancer effects are observed from the optimized targeted nanoparticles. Furthermore, Live/Dead assay showed a higher extent of red fluorescence was observed for the cells exposed with PLGA/NR7 than compared with non-targeted PLGA NP. The presence of the NR7-targeting moiety on the surface of PLGA carriers could allow the specific receptor-mediated internalization, enhanced cellular uptake, and higher cell killing potency. Especially, PLGA/NR7 NP exhibited a superior apoptosis effect in HN6 cancer cells with around~45% (early and late apoptotic stage) and~59% after 24 and 48h incubation, respectively. It is apparent that the actively targeted micelles will deliver more anticancer agent to cancer cell than non-targeted one. Conclusion: Altogether, our results show the feasibility and promise of a cell-targeted anticancer nanomedicine strategy that can be effective for the treatment of oral squamous cell carcinoma.
